Hal’s Workshop recipes use three materials that behave very differently from one another. Azure Ore comes out of rock, Ponderous Bone comes off a giant, and Glacial Ore is simply lying on the ground where ice has formed.
Quick answer: Mine Azure Ore from cave-wall veins in Norgan, take Ponderous Bone by using Examine on a dead Norgan giant, and grab Glacial Ore as a Pick Up item next to ice. Three places for each are covered below; it is not a complete list.
Azure Ore, Ponderous Bone and Glacial Ore: weights and sell values
The item text of each of the three ends with “Can be used to forge equipment.”
| Material | Weight | Sell price | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.10 kg | 300 G | Quest reward from Hammer and Tongs | |
| 0.50 kg | 1,000 G | Dropped by Norgan Giant | |
| 0.25 kg | 90 G | Picked up near ice |
Whenever an item is collected, a separate entry appears along the screen’s right side, showing its name beside a tiny icon. No quantity is displayed; each entry represents one item.

Add to Google Preferences →Azure Ore: mine the cave veins in Norgan
Azure Ore is obtained by mining veins embedded in cave walls. Look for a dark, uneven rock bulge around chest level, marked by gold-coloured flecks and several light-coloured, sharp crystals at its top. Press up against the vein and strike it. Every hit breaks off one piece; because a vein can produce different ores, Molten Ore or Sunstone may appear before Azure Ore.

Inner Valley Grotto
You enter Inner Valley Grotto from Nival Gorge Collapse while heading for the Mournful Giant, and the location title appears. Immediately to the right, a vein sits with a wooden chest on a rock ledge behind it. Its first drop is Molten Ore, followed by Azure Ore. Farther inside this little cave, another vein is set into the wall next to a large clay pot and yields that same combination. The chest and both deposits are separated by only a few steps in this cramped chamber.

Valley Cave System
As you reach an entrance framed by high, light-coloured stalagmites, the title Valley Cave System appears. Near the arch opening back onto the snow, a pine grove, and stone ruins beyond, an ore vein is embedded in the earthen passage wall. This deposit can yield Sunstone as well as Azure Ore. In the exposed valley immediately before the cave, a giant may drop Ponderous Bone; collect it on the same outing as the ore.

Lakeside Grotto
Within the rock-hewn passage marked Lakeside Grotto, ore veins appear along the grotto walls. The earliest one yields Molten Ore. In a side recess, a wooden chest containing Liquid Vim is positioned right beneath a vein that can drop either Molten Ore or Azure Ore. Farther along, Azure Ore comes from a vein bearing big pale crystals on a rocky shelf.

The wall vein in Snowfall Valley Cavity gave Sunstone, not Azure Ore.
Ponderous Bone: examine the Norgan giants you kill
Ponderous Bone drops from Norgan’s massive, shaggy, stooped giants, identifiable by their mammoth-like tusks and the boss health meter spanning the top of the screen. Each Norgan Giant has 240,000 health. One bone may come loose during combat; after defeating the giant, approach its remains and select Examine to obtain Ponderous Bone.

The Mournful Giant
This one is fought during the quest Sage’s Wisdom – Riddle of the Body, at the step “Defeat the Mournful Giant.” It stands on a snowy slope in a blizzard, up past Nival Gorge Collapse and Inner Valley Grotto. A Ponderous Bone line can appear while it is still on its feet. Once it falls, Examine the body for two Spoils lines and a Ponderous Bone.
The giant before Valley Cave System
In the open valley, a giant goes down in a shallow stream a short walk from the Valley Cave System entrance. Use Examine at its remains to collect Spoils, then a Ponderous Bone, then another Spoils entry. The nearby Azure Ore vein can be gathered on the same outing.
The tusked giant in North Valgrian Frostgrove
A giant appears on a snowbound woodland trail when the area title North Valgrian Frostgrove comes up. Examine its remains to obtain Ponderous Bone. You can then collect additional bone entries from the pieces scattered on the snow around it, as well as a Spoils entry. One defeat here may yield multiple bones.

Do not leave the moment the health bar empties. The carcass stays, Examine is its own action, and bone that fell off earlier may still be sitting in the snow nearby.
Glacial Ore: pick it up where ice forms
Mining is unnecessary for Glacial Ore: approach the small, light-coloured lump and use Pick Up, with Glacial Ore displayed beneath the prompt. Its position is marked by a narrow beam of light rising above it, visible against the snow.

Pupil’s Path
During the blizzard portion of Pupil’s Path, check the snowy perimeter of the ruined stone terraces for Glacial Ore; its prompt reads Pick Up.

Mountain Stronghold, 1F
In the snowy courtyard, a dark entrance cuts into the stone wall, with a tall turquoise ice pillar beside it. Pick up Glacial Ore and Pulsating Scarthe there. Fallen armoured bodies are also scattered along the wall: use Pick Up beside one to get Glacial Ore, or Examine a body for a Spoils line and Glacial Ore.
Mordria Temple
On the exterior snowy shelf beneath the cliff trail, find Glacial Ore beside a patch of light ice spikes at the base of a rock face. Indoors on B1F, another Pick Up item rests on the snow-covered ground in a rocky passage.
Hal’s Workshop recipes that use these materials
Here is how much of each material the relevant Workshop recipes call for, with the manufacturing cost in gold.
| Recipe | Materials | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Azure Ore x1 | 9,000 G | |
| Azure Ore and Ponderous Bone | — | |
| Azure Ore x1, Barbarian Armor Fragment x3 | 10,000 G | |
| Snowoak Bark x2, Ponderous Bone x1, Rectrix x3 | 15,000 G | |
| Snowoak Bark x2, Ponderous Bone x1 and a third material | 15,000 G | |
| Glacial Ore x2, Bugatooth x6 | 12,000 G | |
| Glacial Ore x4, Wintry Dragon Scale x1, Bloodstained Plate x2 | 15,000 G | |
| Glacial Ore x8 | — |

Completing the quest Hammer and Tongs pays out Snowoak Bark and Azure Ore, enough to cover a first Azure Ore recipe without any mining.
Frostbright Ore is a different item
Dwayne’s Standard Trade offers Frostbright Ore for one Norgan Ducat, but this is a distinct item from Glacial Ore and Azure Ore. Neither Workshop recipe slot accepts it, so buying it won’t substitute for either of those ores.

Checking you have enough before you set out
The Workshop panel lists Required Materials with a Held and Needed column, so a line reading Azure Ore 0/1 tells you exactly what you are short of. Read that before leaving town, then head out for the veins, the giants and the icy ledges knowing precisely how many pieces each recipe needs you to bring home.
