Clear The Elixir Well is a Blacksmith quest in Enshrouded that sends you down into a shroud-choked pit near your starting base, where a Shroud Root feeds corruption into the world above. Finishing it means reaching the well, descending into its depths, defeating a miniboss, and cutting down the root at its base.

Quick answer: Glide into the Elixir Well east of Braelyn Bridge, kill the Fell Thunderbrute, then destroy the Shroud Root at its base. The quest completes the moment the root shatters.

Requirements before you start

You unlock this quest from Oswald Anders, the Blacksmith, after completing Forge Weaponry or Armor. Talk to him at your Flame Altar and ask about Cleansing Fire to begin.

Entering the well starts an enshrouded status timer with a base maximum of 10:00. Everything below has to be done before that timer runs out, so come prepared.

  • Equip solid armor such as a fur set for better survivability.
  • Eat food and rest at your base for buffs before leaving.
  • Bring at least a few healing potions.
  • Leave open inventory slots for the chest and boss loot.

Return Beacons near the well’s upper staircase double as respawn points and refill your shroud timer, so pass through one before heading deeper.

Reach the Elixir Well east of Braelyn Bridge

The well sits inside the shroud just east of and below Braelyn Bridge. You travel there by gliding down from the cliffs near your base.

Open the world map, select the Clear The Elixir Well marker, and set it as your waypoint so you can track the direction while moving.
Leave your base altar and follow the path east toward the canyon, heading for the cliff edge that overlooks the fog-filled chasm.

Leap from the cliff edge and deploy your glider to cross the chasm toward the large stone ruin in the middle of the shroud. That ruin is the Elixir Well.

Aim for the deep well opening beneath the bridge and glide straight down into it. Dropping in triggers the LOCATION REACHED prompt and starts your enshrouded timer.

Loot the entrance chest and descend into the depths

On the upper wooden platform inside the well structure there is an ornate chest worth opening before you go down. Its contents give you a weapon upgrade for the fight ahead.

After looting, take the grated wall and wooden ladder down, then follow the spiral staircase, scaffolding, and rock ramps deeper into the cavern. Keep moving through the enshrouded tunnels until you reach the open chamber below.

Defeat the Fell Thunderbrute

The central chamber holds the glowing red Shroud Root, guarded by the Fell Thunderbrute. This greatsword-wielding miniboss is the real obstacle in the well, but his moveset is short once you learn it.

  • He slams his greatsword to send a shockwave in a straight line, so sidestep out of its path.
  • In close range he throws a forward kick; keep circling around him to avoid it.
  • His three-hit combo ends in a ground slam with another shockwave, so back away on the final swing.

Lock on and run circles around him, closing in to strike right after each shockwave passes. Ranged weapons and explosive powder balls also work well while you keep your distance. Watch your health with food and potions throughout.

With the boss down, search his body for his drops. Among them is a Level 6 Rare two-handed greatsword.

Destroy the Shroud Root to finish the quest

With the Fell Thunderbrute cleared, turn to the red Shroud Root in the middle of the chamber. The game recommends a felling axe, but any melee weapon will break it; an axe simply does more damage and finishes it faster.

Keep striking the root at its base until it breaks apart in a flash of light. When it falls, the QUEST COMPLETED! message appears and the shroud around you disappears, opening this lower area for free exploration. Shroud remains above in the ruin.

Completion awards a Skill Point and the Fell Thunderbrute Head along with XP, and the location is marked as cleared on your map. When you get back to base, speak with Oswald and interact with your Flame Altar to upgrade it and expand your building area.
