The Alchemist’s Tower sits in Lone Thistle, northeast of the first Ancient Spire and across a Shroud-filled basin. Reaching it is the opening step of the quest The Alchemist’s Mortar, and stepping onto the upper stone ground of the ruins flips the objective from “Reach the Alchemist’s Tower” to “Search the Alchemist’s Basement.”
Quick answer: Fast travel to Ancient Spire – Springlands, glide northeast toward the quest marker, drop into the Shroud valley at Lone Thistle, then climb the wooden scaffolding on the cliffside ruins to trigger the quest update.
Before you set out
The approach runs through the Shroud, and the valley around Lone Thistle holds both flying enemies and standard Shroud creatures. A full inventory of travel supplies keeps the trip short. Pack the following before leaving camp.
- Cooked meats to raise your maximum HP
- Water and healing potions
- Bandages
- Melee and ranged weapons
- Powder Balls
The Shroud runs on a timer that counts down once you enter it. Watch the bar at the top of the screen and use pockets of clean air to reset it, since the final stretch around the tower is enshrouded.

Starting from the top of the Ancient Spire gives you height to glide a large part of the distance. The quest marker sits northeast, so you can head toward it in a straight line and cover ground quickly.

Climbing to the tower
The area’s highest structure stands on a low rise near the zone’s southwestern edge. Its top extends above the Shroud, making it visible as you travel through the valley. The tower is offset from the quest marker rather than directly over it.

How to confirm you reached the tower
You have arrived correctly when a “New Location Charted” banner appears and adds markers to your map, and the journal entry switches from “Reach the Alchemist’s Tower” to “Search the Alchemist’s Basement.” From there, the mortar waits in the basement below, and the next task is to find the button higher in the tower that opens the barred cell holding it.
