The campaign finale of this conceptual Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 plays out across two separate acts and two different playable characters. The first puts you behind a South Korean soldier hunting a North Korean commander inside a bunker. The second hands control to Captain John Price for a captivity escape that ends in a one-on-one fight with the campaign’s main antagonist, “The Archer.”
Quick answer: The finale runs in two acts. It ends with Captain Price killing The Archer in a knife struggle on a frozen lake, then dying from his wounds as Ghost arrives and closes his eyes.
Act 1: The North Korea bunker and Commander Ri Ju-young
The first half places you as Private Park Hyun-Jun, fighting alongside squadmates including Kal and Lt. Ko Jin-Hyuk. The mission objective is plain on screen: Find and Kill Commander Ri. The assault opens in a grand palace hall, where the squad fights through display cars, staircases and ornate exhibition rooms filled with artifacts and statues.
A long marble corridor dead-ends at a locked door, and the route redirects through a hidden passage concealed behind a portrait. From there the squad descends into a subterranean facility, cuts the power and switches to night vision goggles. A stretch of green-tinted corridors, a guard dog and a stacked gauntlet of server rooms and offices lead toward the command room. Triggering friendly fire here fails the objective outright, with a warning that reads Friendly fire will not be tolerated! before you restart at the last checkpoint.
Breaching charges open the fortified war room doors, and a second breach pushes into the inner office where Commander Ri Ju-young is hiding. A short cutscene and firefight end with Ri shot dead, after which the squad calls in “Jackpot” and begins collapsing to the extraction points.

The extraction reaches the area beyond the burning palace. In the farewell cutscene, Lt. Ko Jin-Hyuk chooses to remain in Korea instead of departing, while Private Park gets aboard the transport. The helicopter takes off, and the soldiers discuss the mission during its flight away. The act ends with a cinematic cast-credits sequence.

Act 2: “Greater Good” and Price’s capture
The second act opens with the mission card reading GREATER GOOD and JOHN PRICE, set in the present day. Price sits bound inside a military transport truck moving along a snowbound mountain road, seated directly across from The Archer. During the ride, The Archer lays out his ambition to invade Ukraine, Poland, the rest of Europe and England to build a “new Russian Empire.”

The convoy comes under attack. A quick-time prompt gives you the chance to disarm The Archer and start the escape, causing the truck to roll down a snowy ravine. Price reaches the bottom, takes a jagged piece of metal and cuts through his wrist restraints. Ghost radios him to take a rifle from a fallen soldier and pursue The Archer.
The Archer boss fight on the frozen lake
The pursuit continues through a whiteout and thick pine woods, guided by the Kill The Archer objective marker. Price battles Konni guards, then descends a snowy crevasse and lands on a broad, fractured lake of ice shrouded in fog.

The Archer’s silhouette emerges from the whiteout. Price closes the gap and triggers a takedown, tackling him onto the ice. The fight itself is a melee quick-time sequence played out across the cracked surface, trading blows with button prompts between hits.

Price wins the exchange by blocking The Archer’s knife and driving the blade into his throat, killing him. You know the fight is over when the kill lands and the brawl ends with both men down on the ice.

Price’s death and the In Memoriam ending
Badly wounded, Price drops onto his back beside The Archer’s body. Ghost crosses the ice, checks on him, and they share their final words. Price confirms Gaz was right and orders Ghost to hold the line, then dies. Ghost gently closes Price’s eyes, picks up the secured intel bag from the ice, and vanishes into the fog.
The finale lands the Hold the Line trophy, then rolls into epilogue credits. The sequence includes a set of In Memoriam dedication screens naming Reiner Yang, Matt Canale, Preetam Raj Bordoloi and Vince Zampella, before the studio credits close out the campaign.
Taken together, the ending trades the Korean bunker raid for a quiet, brutal duel in the snow, and kills off two major figures in a single stretch. The Archer dies by Price’s hand, and Price himself does not survive the wounds he takes to finish the job.
