Glass Soldier is a melee Amber in Valor Mortis. It makes your melee attacks hit harder, and in exchange you take more damage from everything. The first copy is easy to miss. It sits in a closed-off yard behind a barn in Fallen Village, and the only way in is through the barn’s rafters.
Quick answer: Rest at the Orchard Lantern in Chapter 3, follow the dirt path to the barn, climb the outside crates into the rafters, smash the crates, drop down, and open the red strongbox.
Glass Soldier location: the barn near the Orchard Lantern
The Orchard Lantern is the third Lantern you reach in Chapter 3, and it sits in Fallen Village. The chest is a short walk away, but it is fenced off at ground level. You can’t walk up to it from the path.

When you take the Amber, a pickup notice appears with the name Glass Soldier and an amber triangle icon. Open your Inventory and look under the Ambers category. The entry should read UPGRADE LEVEL: 1 / 3.

Having the Amber in your inventory doesn’t make it active. You equip Ambers by interacting with a Lantern and placing them in a free Amber slot. The bonus applies only while Glass Soldier sits in one of those slots.
All Glass Soldier copies and ranks
The Orchard chest is only the first copy. The game places four Glass Soldier copies across three regions, and the Amber tops out at rank 3. Each extra copy you collect raises its rank by one, so the fourth copy is a spare.
| Copy | Source | Region | Nearby landmark |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Chest | Orchard Lantern | |
| 2 | Chest | Market Square Lantern | |
| 3 | Volunteers drop | — | |
| 4 | Eternal Guardsman drop | Courtyard |
Both copies in The Outskirts can take you from rank 1 to rank 3 in a single region. The Eternal Guardsman copy in Fortress waits in a room past a hallway with a hanging flag. Because the Amber can’t go past rank 3, you only need that copy if you skipped one of the earlier ones.
The trade-off doesn’t change as the rank goes up. Glass Soldier always increases the melee damage you deal and the damage you take. If you parry and dodge cleanly, it pays off. If you take a lot of hits, it will hurt you.
Glass Soldier also counts toward the Ambersmith achievement, which requires one copy of every Amber in the game. The Orchard chest alone is enough for that, so the barn detour in Chapter 3 is worth a minute even if you never plan to equip it.
