Ancient Obelisks in Enshrouded are lore stones scattered across the map. Reading one also charts hidden Flame Shrines and Shroud Roots for you. Those markers lead to Sparks, which strengthen the Flame, and to Skill Points.
Quick answer: A total of 14 Ancient Obelisks appear on the map. Six regions have a pair apiece, while Blackmire and Cinder’s Cradle each have one. Approach an obelisk and select Read.

Two obelisks sit at a different height from their landmark. The Nomad Highlands one is well below Scavenger Outpost, and the Albaneve Summits one is high above Forgotten Temple.
How to read an Ancient Obelisk
Reading an obelisk adds its lore to your journal. The game then shows “New location charted!”, and the new markers appear on the map.
What reading an obelisk unlocks
The game’s Ancient Obelisk Revelations text explains the system:
“Ancient Obelisks contain lore about the world. After reading them, you will gain insight to the locations of hidden Flame Shrines and Shroud Roots. Flame Shrines can be harvested to obtain Sparks. Sparks are needed to strengthen the Flame. Shroud Roots must be destroyed to gain Skill Points.”
The obelisk itself has a shorter line: “Interact with the Ancient Obelisk to reveal its knowledge of the land and recollection of the past.”

Five quests point you toward an obelisk.

- A Story Of Rot (from the Flame), step “Read The Springlands Obelisk Of The Shroud”: “The Obelisks show hidden truths, and some are connected to what festers below.”
- Obelisk Research: “Notes from the researcher Loraine Crim detail the location of obelisks in the Revelwood, Nomad Highlands and Kindlewastes.” Its steps are Read The Revelwood Obelisk, Read The Nomad Highlands Obelisk and Read The Kindlewastes Ancient Obelisk.
- A Test Of Skill (from the Hunter): “You’ve discovered an Ancient Obelisk in the hunting grounds. Read it to uncover more hidden locations!”
