The Sand Dollar is a Common Ocean catch in Fisch, and Crab Cages are the quickest way to get one. You don’t need an expensive cage, a special rod, or any particular weather. You need a stack of cheap cages, some open water, and a few minutes of waiting.

Quick answer: Buy regular Crab Cages at Moosewood Village, place several baited cages in the Ocean, wait a few minutes, then open them. Repeat until a Sand Dollar drops.

What you need before farming Sand Dollar

The setup is cheap. Regular Crab Cages cost about 45 C$ each, so a batch of 50 runs 2,250 C$. The Reinforced Crab Cage is not needed for this.

  • Several regular Crab Cages from the Moosewood Village merchant
  • Bait to load into the cages, such as Luminous Larva
  • A boat, Jetski, or submarine to reach open Ocean water
  • No special weather, time of day, or preferred bait for the Sand Dollar itself

The Sand Dollar is listed as a Summer catch. It is also marked as Unfavoring, which means its catch chance goes down as your luck goes up. A low-luck setup works in your favor here, and the regular Crab Cage adds no luck at all.

How to get Sand Dollar with Crab Cages

Travel to Moosewood Village and find the merchant stand. Buy regular Crab Cages in bulk rather than the Reinforced or Golden versions, since more cages means more rolls at the drop.

Head to the Moosewood docks and spawn a vessel from the Shipwright. Drive out into open Ocean water away from the island.

Open your inventory, equip a Crab Cage, and place it in the water. The game confirms each placement with a message like “You placed a Crab Cage with Luminous Larva bait. (+1)”.

Place several more cages around you at the same time. Each cage holds 2–3 catches, so spreading out a batch multiplies your chances on every cycle.

Wait a few minutes, then move close to each cage and press E when the “Press E to Open” prompt appears. If you see “You’re too far away,” get closer to the cage before trying again.
Check what came up. Cages also pull junk and other sea life like Big Boot, Big Lobster, Sea Urchin, and Albino Prawn. If there’s no Sand Dollar, drop the cages again and repeat until one shows up.

Sand Dollar Crab Cage locations

The open Ocean near Moosewood is the simplest spot, but Sand Dollar can show up in cages across a wide range of zones. Docks and beaches are the best-hinted places to cage-fish for it.

Other ways to get Sand Dollar in Fisch

Cages aren’t the only route. A regular Fishing Rod can catch Sand Dollar in the Ocean and at Coral Bastion, including during the Reef Titan Hunt and Colossus Reef Titan Hunt. Coral Bastion has a smaller fish pool, which helps the odds. With a resilience of 200, it’s a very easy reel once hooked.

The Ollie Otter companion is also a listed source. And during the SANDSTORM Admin Event, Sand Dollar has a fixed 20% chance in any body of water, so it’s worth casting anywhere while that event is live.

How to confirm you caught a Sand Dollar

A catch notification appears when you open a cage that holds one, such as “You just caught a Sand Dollar at 0.2kg.” To double-check, open your inventory and type sand into the search bar. The Sand Dollar shows up with its weight and any mutation, and you can equip it to hold it in hand. Catching one awards 30 XP and adds it to your Bestiary.

SizeWeight threshold
TinyUnder 0.05 kg
SmallUnder 0.099 kg
BigOver 0.2 kg
GiantOver 0.398 kg

A naturally caught Sand Dollar tops out at 0.4 kg, so anything above 0.398 kg is tagged as a Giant Sand Dollar. It’s a low-value catch either way, which makes the Bestiary entry the real reward for most players.
