Enshrouded 1.0: Best Early Game Metal Scraps Farm

Cinder Vault urn pods and the Scavenger village of Rookmore cover every early Metal Scraps recipe, from Lockpicks to the Forge.

Cinder Vault urn pods and the Scavenger village of Rookmore cover every early Metal Scraps recipe, from Lockpicks to the Forge.

Metal Scraps are the first real bottleneck in Enshrouded. You can’t mine them like stone or ore, yet the Blacksmith’s starter tools, the Forge, Nails, and Metal Sheets all need them. Two early spots keep you supplied. One needs nothing but a pickaxe. The other needs a short trip into the Shroud and a few fights.

Quick answer: Fast travel to Cinder Vault and break the urn pods in the starting chamber with a pickaxe. Then farm Scavengers and loot buildings in Rookmore, north beyond Braelyn Bridge.

Cinder Vault urn pods: Metal Scraps without combat

The room where you first wake up is lined with metal urn pods, and each one drops Metal Scraps when it breaks. Nothing hostile lives there, so the run carries no risk. All it takes is a pickaxe and a fast travel trip.

Open the map and fast travel to the Cinder Vault flame altar. This is the spot where the game starts, so it’s already unlocked.
Turn around from the flame and climb the stairs. Go through the round doors back into the original spawn chamber.
Hit each urn pod in the wall niches with a pickaxe until it breaks. Use a pickaxe and not an axe, because the pickaxe deals full damage to the pods and an axe does not. Some pods may need a few swings.
Work your way around the room and break every pod along the walls and alcoves. Then pick up the drops. A single pod can give +5 Metal Scraps, and the pickup notice confirms each haul.
Character on a misty grassy cliff with sparkles rising and a pickup list of crafting materials on the left.
Newly collected items are listed on the left: Plant Fiber ×13, Stone ×7, Twigs ×14, Metal Scraps ×7 and Torn Cloth ×2, under the Clear the Elixir Well quest.

The pods respawn in about 45 minutes. Logging out no longer resets them straight away, so plan to come back on a timer instead of relogging. The same kind of pods also turn up where you rescue survivors and inside the Ancient Vault – Blacksmith. A pickaxe works on those too.

Rookmore: Scavenger farm in the Springlands

Rookmore is a ruined village in the Springlands. It gives you three sources of Metal Scraps in one place. Scavengers drop them, loose scraps sit on tables and in chests, and breakable objects spill more. The enemies there are level one, so a bow and a stack of arrows will handle most of them.

Player in build mode placing a blue ghost wooden block near a cobbled path, with the Foundation shape panel at the bottom.
Placing a Rough Wood Block in build mode in the Springlands, with the Foundation shapes panel open and a new hint, Building Blocks: Springlands, unlocked.
From your starting area, head north and follow the green slope down until you reach Braelyn Bridge.
Drop into the shrouded area below the bridge. Use a glider or the Grappling Hook to get down safely.
Travel northwest through the Shroud until the village buildings come into view. That’s Rookmore.
Clear the Scavengers patrolling the ruins and loot their bodies. Then search each building’s tables, crafting stations, furniture, chests, and floors for loose Metal Scraps.

One enemy drops anywhere from 0 to 5 Metal Scraps. Some drop none at all, so expect to clear the whole village before you have enough for a bigger recipe. Loot and breakable objects reset after a while, which means you can run the same loop again later.

Bring healing items and stamina food such as Honey before you push into the camp. Honey adds 30 Stamina Regeneration for 60 s.

After clearing Rookmore, you have two nearby backup locations. Longkeep is west of the starting home base and southeast of Rookmore. Scavengers also congregate outside the Blacksmith’s vault. Check any ruined Springlands settlement above the Shroud, too.

Enemies that drop Metal Scraps

Several enemies always have Metal Scraps in their drop pool. Most are humanoid Scavengers, and one is a bird. Not every Scavenger counts, though. The Scavenger Hound drops Bones, with Animal Fur or Raw Wolf Meat on occasion, and no scraps.

The Butcher, Miner, and Pyreblade can also drop rings, gems, Iron Ore, and weapons such as the Scrap Shield and Scavenger Miner Axe. That makes them worth killing even after your scrap stock is full. Of the Scavengers listed, only the Butcher has a Springlands spawn point. Most of the Bully and Raven spawns sit in later regions, so they matter more once you move past the starting biome.

Breaking camp objects for Metal Scraps

Scavenger camps are full of things you can smash, including crates, barrels, bags, brazier stands, and wagons. Objects that look like they contain metal tend to drop Metal Scraps more often. Large wagons and bigger barrels are good targets. These drops aren’t guaranteed, so treat smashing as a top-up while you loot rather than the main plan. Destructibles also respawn after a period, just like chests.

A pickaxe or axe does the job, but the Explosive Powder Ball flattens a cluster of camp structures at once. It’s a Common throwable that deals 25 Fire damage, scaling with Dexterity. You can throw one every 1 s, and it stacks to 20. You learn the recipe when you pick up Charcoal, and you craft it by hand without a station.

How many Metal Scraps early recipes need

Picking up your first Metal Scraps teaches you several recipes at once, including the Scrappy Sword, Scrappy Axe, Lockpick, Nails, and Metal Sheets. Here’s what the early shopping list costs.

Lockpick1Blacksmith
Nails (x2)1Blacksmith
Metal Sheets2Forge
Advanced Rake2—
Scrappy Sword3Blacksmith
Scrappy Axe4Blacksmith
Grappling Hook4Workbench
Fur armor set5—
Scrappy Pickaxe8Blacksmith
Forge10—

Crafting the Advanced Rake calls for a Rake and Charcoal. Charcoal is also required at the Forge to make Metal Sheets. The Scrappy Sword and Scrappy Axe must be crafted under a roof, so place your Blacksmith inside a shelter. Metal Scraps are needed for furnishings and decor, including the Camp Bed, Carved Wooden Door, and Chandelier. The costs add up quickly, so save some in storage.

Scrappy Axe should be your first priority. You need it to destroy Shroud Roots when you clear Elixir Wells, and quest progress depends on that. It deals 17 Cutting damage and carries Stamina 4, Lumberjack 1, and Stamina Regeneration 3 perks. It also lasts longer and chops more efficiently than the basic Axe.

Scrappy Sword is a Warrior one-handed sword at item level 5. It deals 17 Cutting damage with a 0.6 s attack speed. For a few scraps, it’s a cheap way to get rid of your starting weapon.

Lockpick opens locked chests and doors and stacks to 50. Keeping one or two on you means a locked chest in a Scavenger camp never forces a trip back to base.

Metal Sheets are Metal Scraps melted down at the Forge into a material you can process further. They’re the next tier of crafting, which is why the 10-scrap Forge is worth saving for early.

Nails come out of the Blacksmith two at a time from a single scrap. Better storage chests and other advanced items need them. They stack to 250, so crafting a batch ahead of time costs you nothing.

One Cinder Vault sweep plus one Rookmore clear covers the Scrappy Axe, a Lockpick, and a good start on the Forge. By the time the Cinder Vault pods respawn, you’ll know exactly how many more scraps you need.
