Double Chance is the AION 2 stat that gives a hit a chance to deal twice its normal damage. Builds of every role stack it, including Clerics and Templars. Each percentage point is a direct increase to how often that bonus triggers. The stat comes from three places: soul-bound armor rolls, the Wisdom [Lumiel] deity stat, and pet Genus Insight.

Quick answer: Double Chance is your chance to land a Double, a hit at 2x damage. You raise it with Helm, Pauldron, and Cloak rolls, with Wisdom [Lumiel] at 0.1% per point, and with Genus Insight.

How Double Chance works in AION 2

When a Double triggers, the game takes your final damage for that hit and doubles it. Because the multiplier applies after the rest of the damage math, it stacks with every other modifier. A critical hit that also rolls a Double is a doubled critical hit.

The stat does not trigger at its listed value against every target. The target’s Double Resist is subtracted from your Double Chance, so the rate you actually get depends on what you are hitting. Players raise Double Resist through the Time [Siel] deity stat, at 0.1% per point.

The Korean version of AION 2 calls this stat Smite. The global release renamed it Double Chance and made no other changes. It works the same way and comes from the same sources.

Double Chance math: Each point is worth less as you stack

Your average damage per hit is 1 plus your effective Double Chance. At 30%, for example, a hit averages 1.3x normal damage. Each extra 1% adds the same amount to that average. But the base it is added to keeps growing, so each new point is a slightly smaller share of your total output.

Effective Double ChanceAverage damage per hitDPS gain from +1%
0%1.00x1.00%
1%1.01x0.99%
25%1.25x0.80%
50%1.50x0.67%
62%1.62x0.62%

“Effective” means after the target’s Double Resist and any party buffs are applied. Suppose you have 80% Double Chance and a boss has 30% Double Resist. Your real rate is closer to 50% than 80%, so each point you add is worth more against that boss than the number on your character sheet suggests.

Where to get Double Chance in AION 2

Soul-bound armor rolls

Gear is the primary source. Double Chance may appear as a random bonus stat when you Soul Bind an item, and 678 items are eligible for the roll. Among armor pieces, the eligible options are Helms, Pauldrons, and Cloaks. Breastplates, Greaves, Gloves, and Boots are excluded. Because the result is random, getting the stat on a particular piece may take multiple attempts.

Higher item levels raise the ceiling on the roll. Here is how the range scales across a selection of Helms:

HelmItem levelDouble Chance roll
Wisdom Helm361.25% to 1.51%
Fantasy Helm361.25% to 1.51%
Holy Spirit Helm411.3% to 1.57%
Spectral Helm411.3% to 1.57%
Guardian Lord Nahma Helm86Up to 2.08%
Nuakum Helm86Up to 2.08%
Wise Dragon Lord Helm94Up to 2.08%
Ebony Dragon Lord Helm94Up to 2.08%
Splendent Wise Dragon Lord Helm102Up to 2.2%
Splendent Ebony Dragon Lord Helm102Up to 2.2%

The four Unique Helms at item levels 36 and 41 are earlier tier-2 pieces. All four can come from quest rewards and from field events such as Goldrin’s Treasure, Hidden Lugi, and Wraith Evasion. The Wisdom Helm can also come out of the Wisdom Armor Selection Chest (Bound). All four are bound when obtained, so you cannot buy one with a Double Chance roll from another player. The Holy Spirit Helm requires level 35 and has 4 manastone slots.

Wisdom [Lumiel] deity stat

Wisdom [Lumiel] grants 0.1% Double Chance per point. Its gains are linear: the 100th point adds just as much as the first. Each point of Wisdom also lowers MP cost by 0.1%, with the reduction capped at 60%. Wisdom is available from these sources:

  • Arcana: four items carry Wisdom as their main effect, at up to +20
  • Abyssal Bracelet: a random sub stat of up to +17
  • Monoliths: 10 level rewards grant Wisdom, counting both factions’ Monoliths
  • Pantheon Decorations

Pet Genus Insight

Your pets’ Genus Insight can also roll Double Chance, but only on certain Genus Insight levels, not on every slot. The odds of rolling it are low. Each reroll costs Soul Crystals and Kina, and every stat you lock raises the Soul Crystal cost of the next reroll.

The Odylium Repository daily dungeon rewards Soul Crystals and pet chests. Fill up on both, and have spare Kina, before you chase a high-grade Double Chance roll.

Checking your Double Chance total

Open the character window to see your Wisdom [Lumiel] points along with your other deity stats. Multiply your Wisdom points by 0.1% to get your Double Chance from Wisdom alone. Then add the rolls from your soul-bound Helm, Pauldrons, Cloak, and Genus Insight. If your total rises after you equip a newly bound piece, the roll is active. Keep in mind that the number shown is your rate before the target’s Double Resist is subtracted.
