Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse Dark Sigil Location (Ruined Market)

The Dark Sigil is a relic in Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse that rewards you for not getting hit. It is in a single chest in the Paris Streets area, and the shortest way to it starts at the mirror of life in the Undercity.

Quick answer: Warp to the Undercity mirror and go west through the Street of the Tomb Masons into the Ruined Market. Climb to the upper-right ledge there and open the chest.

Dark Sigil location in Paris Streets

The relic is in the Ruined Market district of Paris Streets, which belongs to the City of Paris part of the map. The chest sits on a raised wooden platform on the right side of a tall room. You have to climb up from the market’s lower floor to reach it, so it is easy to miss if you only cross the room at ground level.

How to reach the Dark Sigil chest from the Undercity mirror

The route takes you through two districts and needs some traversal: grapple points, air dashes, wall jumps, and a second jump in midair.

Fast travel to the mirror of life in the Undercity district of Paris Streets. Open the map to check that Rose’s diamond marker is at the mirror room before you set off.

Walk left out of the mirror room. The exit on the west side leads into the Street of the Tomb Masons.

Cross the Street of the Tomb Masons toward its upper-right exit. Use the golden grapple rings and air dashes to get between the spiked walls without touching them, and keep climbing across the ruined rooftops.

Go through the upper-right exit to enter the Ruined Market. The district name appears as a banner when you cross onto the first wooden platform.

Drop through the gap in the wooden platform to reach the floor below. Then move right across the rubble until you reach the tall vertical shaft.

Climb the shaft by chaining jumps, double jumps, and air dashes. Aim for the high wooden platform on the right side of the room.

Walk up to the ornate chest on that platform and press the interact prompt to open it.

Confirming you picked up the Dark Sigil

When the chest opens, an inspection card for the Dark Sigil appears with the relic’s picture, its effect, and a short lore line. The card has a “HOLD TO EQUIP” prompt, so you can equip the relic right away, or choose “CONTINUE” and equip it later. If you open the map afterward, the chest’s spot in the Ruined Market is marked as collected.

Dark Sigil effect

With the Dark Sigil equipped, Rose’s defense rises by 80%, but only while her health is completely full. Once she takes any damage, the bonus stops applying. It applies again when you bring her back to maximum health. The relic is most useful when you play carefully and refill your health often. If you trade hits a lot, you will rarely have the bonus active.

The lore text describes the seal as the former property of an occult-obsessed scholar, and says it hid more than it ever revealed.

The Ruined Market also holds a clue called “A Lever for the Well.” The Dark Sigil is one of 20 items that count toward completion in Paris Streets. The area as a whole has 3 ATK books, 3 DEF books, 3 Wise Heart Fragments, 3 Brave Heart Fragments, and 5 mirrors of life.

Rose can use Double Jump to ascend the Ruined Market shaft, performing an extra jump while airborne. This ability is obtained in Notre-Dame’s Choir district.
