The Bastard sword is the second one-handed sword most players will find in Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse. It replaces the starting Longsword with double the ATK, and it keeps the same moveset. It sits at the far end of a short but hazard-heavy platforming run in the sewers under the Court of Justice. Once you know the route, you can reach it in a few minutes from the nearest Mirror of Life.
Quick answer: Teleport to the Paris Streets Mirror of Life by the Court of Justice. Head right to the Docks, drop into the Justice District Sewers, clear the grapple section, then double back left to the chest.
Bastard sword requirements
The sewers only open up after you have pushed far enough into the story to return to the surface of Paris. In practice, that means you need the following.
- Progress through the Catacombs of Paris and unlock its gate.
- Beat the bosses that stand in the way of that progression.
- Meet Death, which opens your access to the surface streets.
- Have the Arcane Whip, which you need for the grapple rings and hooks in the sewers. It is granted in the Abandoned Sewers in Paris Streets.

Start from the Mirror of Life that sits near the Court of Justice and the Burned District in Paris Streets. From there, the whole trip runs to the right until you reach the sewer entrance under the Docks.

Justice District Sewers platforming to the chest
The sword sits in a room you can’t reach directly. You have to climb through a separate trap room first and then loop back over the top. Spiked floors and spinning wheels are the only real threats, so take the jumps slowly.

How to confirm you have the Bastard sword
Opening the chest shows the weapon’s card, marked Refined with ATK 50, plus its description and special move. You can equip it right from that prompt by holding the equip button. Later, you’ll find it in the Armoury tab of the equipment menu next to your other weapons. With it equipped, your basic slashes can still break wooden barriers, just like the Longsword.

Bastard sword stats compared to the Longsword
Both swords are one-handed weapons and share the same combo finisher and special move. The Bastard sword is the tier 2 version of the starting Longsword. Its only differences are higher damage figures and better rarity.
| Stat | Bastard sword | Longsword |
|---|---|---|
| Rarity | Refined | Ordinary |
| Tier | 2 | 1 |
| ATK | 50 | 25 |
| Attack power | 26 | 20 |
| Mana per hit | 3 | 3 |
| Stagger power | 30 | 30 |
| Combo finisher | Dash through | Dash through |
| Found in | Paris Streets | Starting weapon |
Bastard sword doubles the Longsword’s ATK and raises attack power, while mana per hit and stagger power stay the same. Switching costs you nothing in MP economy and you don’t need to relearn anything. The game pitches it as a balanced weapon built around mobility.
Longsword is the tier 1 weapon of the same family. Once you have the Bastard sword, the Longsword offers nothing extra, since both have the same moves.
The special move rewards repositioning. If you attack right after a backdash or slide, that hit deals bonus damage. So the most efficient way to use the Bastard sword is to slip out of an enemy’s swing and then punish immediately. The Dash through combo finisher keeps you moving through targets instead of standing in place.
