What Bastion is good for
Bastion serves as a defensive Phantom Edge, converting absorbed damage into a counterattack with Reprisal Shockwave. Fierce Reprisal makes that slam produce an additional shockwave. Raising the shield uses Sha-Chi, so the guard stance and Sha-Chi rules determine how long you can maintain it before letting go.
Its Field ability is Bolt Ward, which blocks bolts from repeating crossbow mechanisms even when Bastion is not equipped.
