Every scare you land in Scare Your Neighbor runs through one number, and the scare trainer at your base decides how big that number is. At Level 2, the glowing scare portal pays out +25 per scare cycle. Pushing it higher is the most direct way to grow the stat that gets you through a neighbor’s door, and the price is printed on a sign right next to the machine.

Quick answer: Walk to the Upgrade sign beside the scare portal and pay $180K in cash or 19 Robux to move the machine from Level 2 to Level 3.

Scare your neighbor – upgrade guide

Scare trainer upgrade cost: Level 2 to Level 3

The scare trainer is a cyan scare chamber with a yellow-haired dummy inside. You stand in front of it, the portal cycles through scare animations, the dummy screams, and a floating “+25/SCARE” label above the doorway tells you how much each cycle is worth at the current level. Next to it stands a sign marked “Upgrade,” and that sign lists the next level and both ways to pay for it.

Level 2 > Level 3+25/SCARE$180K19 Robux

The two prices are alternatives, not a combined bill. You pick one. Cash is what you earn by playing, so the $180K option costs you nothing but time. The Robux option skips the grind for a small real-money purchase.

Checking your cash before you buy

Before you walk over, look at the counters on your HUD. The game shows three running totals, each with its own icon, and only one of them pays for the cash version of this upgrade.

  • Dollar stack icon: your cash. This is the balance the $180K price comes out of.
  • Ghost icon: a separate counter that the scare portal feeds. It does not pay for the upgrade.
  • Running shoe icon: your speed total. It also has no role in the purchase.

If the dollar counter reads $180K or more, you can buy Level 3 outright. A balance of $229.9K, for example, covers it with about $49.9K left over. If you’re short, keep earning cash until you clear the price, or use the Robux option instead.

How to upgrade the scare portal

Head to the scare portal at your base. It’s easy to spot because of the cyan glow and the “+25/SCARE” text floating over its doorway, and the “Sell Items” and “Scare Costumes” stalls sit in the background nearby.
Find the Upgrade sign beside the portal. A red exclamation mark hovers above it, which makes it stand out from the rest of the base even at a distance.
Read the offer on the sign. It shows “Level 2 > Level 3” along with two prices, $180K in cash and 19 Robux, so you can confirm which level you’re buying before you spend anything.

Choose how to pay. Pick the cash price if your dollar counter covers $180K, or pick the Robux price if you’d rather not wait for the balance to build up.
Step back in front of the portal and let it run. The machine keeps cycling on its own while you stand there, so you don’t need to do anything extra to start collecting at the new level.

How to confirm the upgrade went through

Two things change on screen once the purchase is done. If you paid with cash, your dollar counter drops by $180K right away. The Upgrade sign also stops offering “Level 2 > Level 3,” because the machine is no longer at Level 2.

Then watch the floating text above the portal doorway. At Level 2 it reads “+25/SCARE.” Compare it against that figure after the upgrade to see how much each cycle now adds to your counter.

Other upgrades in Scare Your Neighbor

The scare trainer is one of four things you can level up with your earnings. The other three are the treadmill, your minions, and your base. They all compete for the same cash, so a $180K scare upgrade is money you aren’t putting into one of the others.

Your Scare stat decides how likely a scare attempt is to work, and a failed scare means no package to bring home. When you keep getting turned away from houses, the scare trainer is the upgrade that fixes that problem. When you’re getting caught on the run back to base instead, your cash will do more on the treadmill.

Minions keep working while you’re offline, so cash keeps building toward the next upgrade between sessions. Check your dollar counter when you log back in, because you may already be able to afford Level 3.
