Grow a Garden 2 Gnome: What It Does and How to Get It

The Epic Gear Shop item works as an automated guard that damages thieves and pulls Sheckles from anyone near your plot.

The Epic Gear Shop item works as an automated guard that damages thieves and pulls Sheckles from anyone near your plot.

The Gnome is one of the few tools in Grow a Garden 2 built purely for defense, and it matters because the sequel leans hard into stealing. Other players can wander into your plot and grab your best crops while you are away, so an automated guard that punishes them changes how you protect a high-value garden.

Quick answer: Buy the Gnome from the Gear Shop for 100,000 Sheckles (or 95 Robux), place it in your plot, and for 10 minutes it damages and launches intruders who come too close while draining their Sheckles before it despawns.

The Gnome is available at the Gear Shop.

What the Gnome does in Grow a Garden 2

The Gnome is an Epic gear, not a pet, and it does not hatch from any egg. Once you place it on your plot, it acts as a passive guard over the plants inside its range. Any player who steps too close gets attacked, takes damage, and loses a portion of their Sheckles as a penalty.

When an intruder crosses into the protected area, they are thrown into the air and lose health, and some of their Sheckles are pulled away. That combination of knockback, damage, and theft is what makes it a popular counter to the stealing meta. It is one of the few dedicated defensive gears, sitting alongside plants like Venus Flytrap or Dragon’s Breath that also guard your crops.

If you played the original Grow a Garden, note that this is a completely different item. There, the Gnome tied into a cosmetic and a plant mutation. In Grow a Garden 2, it is an active defensive object, not decoration.

How to get the Gnome in Grow a Garden 2

The Gnome is sold through the Gear Shop, but it is not always in stock. Because it is Epic, it only has an 8% chance of appearing in any given rotation, so you may need to check across several restocks before it shows up.

Head to the Gear Shop located in the center of the map and interact with the shop NPC to open the menu.
Scroll through the stock and look for the Gnome. If it is not listed, it is not currently in rotation, and you will have to wait for the next restock.
Select the Gnome and pay 100,000 Sheckles to buy it. You can also purchase it for 95 Robux if you would rather not spend in-game currency.

Because it stocks so rarely, buying more than one when it does appear is worth considering. Keeping a few in reserve means you can re-deploy after each despawns.

How to use the Gnome effectively

Equip the Gnome and place it where its coverage overlaps your most expensive plants. The moment it lands, a 10-minute timer begins. During that window, it guards everything in range and steals from anyone who gets close; then it disappears once the timer runs out.

The strongest use is short-term protection while you are busy elsewhere. Server-wide events, like a Gold seed appearing, often pull you away from your plot, and that is exactly when thieves strike. Dropping a Gnome before you step away covers your crops during those gaps, especially at night when stealing is most common.

It becomes most valuable around the mid-game, once selling a full harvest can cover the 100,000 Sheckle cost in a single trip. At that stage, a Gnome standing watch is a reasonable insurance policy against losing your highest-value plants.
