Energy Rods are the fuel that keeps your Trampler walking in SAND: Raiders of Sophie. Without them, your giant mech grinds to a crawl and leaves you stranded in the desert, which usually ends a run badly. Every new character spawns with five basic NZ Mk2 Energy Rods, and those will not last long once you start exploring, so knowing where to refill matters.
Quick answer: Loot Parts Crates (the rectangular boxes with a white gear logo) at lighthouses, points of interest, and wrecked ships. The basic NZ Mk2 Energy Rod drops from these at a high rate. Destroyed Ironclad mechs and the shop are your other reliable sources.

Where Energy Rods spawn
Energy Rods come from a handful of container types and a few open-world spots. A single fresh rod gives you roughly 10 to 12 minutes of continuous driving before the reactor goes dark, so you will want to keep a stock of spares.

If you are running alone, the wrecked boats scattered across the dunes are the safest stops. They are usually unlooted and only lightly defended by the coral-infected zombies, so you can sweep an entire ship for a Parts Crate in very little time. Not every boat holds one, but the low risk makes them worth checking.
The named forts across the map are the most consistent source. Each is defended by an A.I. Ironclad and crawling with zombies, but the loot density is high. Focus your search on any warehouses or sections that look like docks, since rods tend to cluster there.
You can also find Energy Rods lying out in the open inside these forts. It is uncommon, but rods sometimes sit in cars or rolling carts on the abandoned streets. Watch for the faint purple glow, which almost always signals a rod nearby.
Get Energy Rods from destroyed Ironclads
Ironclads are A.I. mechs that get summoned whenever a watch tower spots you. They take around 5 to 6 hits from an 80mm cannon to bring down. Once one is destroyed, a silver crate drops at the wreckage, and it typically holds an Energy Rod along with some ammo and the occasional rare material.
Buy higher-quality rods from the shop
Better Energy Rods can be purchased, but you have to unlock them first through the Tech Tree. The relevant blueprints sit in the blue Tadeusz Godlewski tree, and once unlocked they become available to buy from the shop in your Storage tab. The first Energy Rod blueprint costs 1,500 Crowns plus 150 Coral Chunk and 15 Weird Coal, and unlocking it only opens the blueprint, so crafting still requires materials.
At the very end of that tree is a smokeless variety. These rods cut the engine smoke that normally acts as a visual beacon, which makes them useful for setting ambushes or moving across the map without being spotted.

How to fuel your Trampler with an Energy Rod
For most raids, 2 to 4 Energy Rods are enough. That number climbs if you plan a long voyage, want to fight other players, or intend to take on tougher challenges. You will know the rod worked when the fuel gauge fills and your Trampler regains full movement speed.
Note: the more casual Voyage mode can burn through your starting rods fast, so refill before your gauge ever reaches the red and you will avoid getting stuck far from an extraction point.
