Kaizen just picked up two big additions that sit outside the usual boss-hunting grind. There’s a full fishing system with its own rods, baits, and catch pool, plus a Weapon Trait Reroll system that lets you reshape the stats attached to a weapon. Both live in the same anime-inspired world built by Lajebo Games x Kaizen, and both run on Yen and their own special currencies.
Quick answer: Talk to the FISHERMAN NPC to buy a rod and bait, head to the dock at TENGOKU – BEACH, then click and hold to cast and reel. To change a weapon’s traits, visit the Weapon Trait Reroll NPC and spend Trait Stones.

How to start fishing in Kaizen
Fishing begins at the FISHERMAN NPC in the village, marked by a green glowing circle on the ground. Walk up to it, and the TALK [E] prompt appears. Interacting opens the FISHERMAN SHOP, where your Yen shows in the top left and Sell and Buy tabs sit in the top right.

TENGOKU - BEACH. There’s a wooden dock with a second FISHERMAN NPC and open water to cast into.Click and Hold Anywhere!, and a green progress bar appears showing Progress, the Anchor fish icon, and your current Control value. Keep the anchor inside the bar until the catch lands. You’ll know a catch succeeded when a notification pops up naming the item and its weight, for example Caught River Carp (8.5 kg). There’s also an Auto Fish: OFF toggle in the bottom right if you want to automate casts once you have a strong setup.

Rods scale up in price and stats, and most of the better ones stay locked until you catch a set number of a specific fish. Control is the stat that helps you keep the anchor steady during a catch, while Luck and Lure Speed improve your odds and pace.
| Rod (Grade) | Cost | Requirement | Stats |
|---|---|---|---|
| Old Bamboo Rod (Grade 4) | 500 Yen | None | Control +17% |
| Ironcast Rod (Grade 3) | 2,500 Yen | Catch any 25 fishes | Luck +8, Lure Speed +5%, Control +25% |
| Black Flash Rod (Grade 2) | 10,000 Yen | Catch 25 Redfin Pikes | Luck +15, Lure Speed +10%, Control +40% |
| Cursed Current Rod (Grade 1) | 25,000 Yen | Catch 25 Lantern Jellies | Luck +23, Lure Speed +15%, Control +75% |
| Six Eyes Rod (Grade S-) | 175,000 Yen | Catch 25 Spirit Koi’s | Luck +41, Lure Speed +25%, Control +114% |
Baits and their stats
Bait is bought in stacks and consumed as you fish. Higher grades push Luck much higher, which matters when you’re chasing rarer catches to unlock the top-tier rods. Note that Golden Roe trades a small Control penalty for its heavy Luck bonus.
| Bait (Grade) | Cost | Stats |
|---|---|---|
| Worm Bait (Grade 4) | 50 Yen | Luck +5, Lure Speed +5% |
| Shimmer Minnow (Grade 3) | 150 Yen | Luck +15, Lure Speed +10% |
| Spirit Lantern Bait (Grade 2) | 350 Yen | Luck +35, Control +5% |
| Golden Roe (Grade 1) | 650 Yen | Luck +60, Lure Speed +20%, Control -8% |
| Mythic Scale Bait (Grade S) | 1,000 Yen | Luck +85, Lure Speed +25%, Control +12% |

What you can catch
Casts pull up a mix of real fish, junk, and crates. Fish come with a weight value and count toward rod unlock requirements, so grinding low-tier catches early is worth it. Junk items like cans, tires, and rotten wood still appear even with strong bait, and crates are the standout drops.
- Fish such as River Carp, Mudscale Bass, and Redfin Pike
- Junk such as Rusted Can, Rotten Wood, Broken Wagon Wheel, Old Tire, and Torn Sandal
- Containers such as the Grade 2 Expedition Crate
Along the route to the dock you can also open golden chests. One of those can hand you an x1 Energy Reroll Token [LEGENDARY], so it’s worth grabbing them on the way.
How weapon traits work
Weapon traits are handled by the Weapon Trait Reroll NPC back in the village. Talking to it opens the WEAPON TRAITS menu, which shows your Trait Stone count alongside a CHANGE button and your currently equipped weapon.
Each weapon tracks its own reroll counter, shown as REROLLS [0/20] for a piece like the Easter Bow (Grade S). Trait Stones are the currency you spend to roll a new trait, and the CHANGE button swaps which weapon you’re rerolling. Every reroll consumes stones and advances that weapon’s counter, so stockpile Trait Stones before you start chasing a specific trait.

If you’re just getting into Kaizen, the cheap Old Bamboo Rod and Worm Bait are enough to start banking fish and hitting the first unlock requirements. From there, work up through the rod tiers as you build Yen, and set aside Trait Stones for the weapon you actually plan to main.
