Every stele location, coordinates, and story requirement needed to unlock the Mayan door reward in Tulum.

The Mayan Mysteries side quest in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced sends Edward Kenway across the Caribbean to solve stele puzzles. Each solved stele hands you one Mayan stone, and you need all 16 to open the sealed door beneath the step pyramid in Tulum. The payoff is a Legendary outfit and a Legendary Trinket that absorbs incoming gunfire.

Quick answer: Collect all 16 Mayan stones from stelae scattered across the map, then return to the locked Mayan door in Tulum (Conttoyor region) and choose “Place Stone” to open it. You can gather the stones in any order.

When the Mayan Mysteries quest starts

The quest begins automatically in Tulum once you finish the Overrun and Outnumbered main mission. You will actually pick up your very first stone earlier than that, during the This Old Cove mission, so the quest is well underway before it formally opens.

Two of the 16 stelae stay locked behind story progress. Long Bay only opens once you begin The Observatory (Sequence 10), and the two steles on Isla Providencia require you to complete the Delirium quest first. Plan to leave those three for later if you are chasing the stones early.

All 16 Mayan stone locations and coordinates

Each stele is a rotation puzzle. Line up the projected pattern from the correct viewing angle, and the stone is yours. Here is where every one sits, along with map coordinates where they apply.

Islands with two stelae to remember

Three islands hold a pair of steles each, and it is easy to sail off after solving only one. Misteriosa in Serranilla has a stele on its eastern side and a second near the western shore. Pinos Isle in Castillo de Jagua splits its two between the east and west. Isla Providencia, also in Serranilla, keeps one in the north and one in the south.

Sweep each of these islands fully before moving on. Missing a second stele is the most common reason players stall at 14 or 15 stones.

Stelae locked behind main missions

Three stones cannot be picked up until the story catches up. Don’t waste time sailing to them early.

  • Long Bay (Charlotte): Start The Observatory main quest in Sequence 10 to unlock the region. The stele sits near the Observatory entrance.
  • Isla Providencia, north (Serranilla): Finish The Observatory and continue through to the Delirium quest, then travel south on the map to the island.
  • Isla Providencia, south (Serranilla): Same requirement. Solve this puzzle for your 16th and final stone.

Open the Mayan door and claim the reward

With all 16 stones in your inventory, sail to Tulum in the Conttoyor region on the eastern edge of the map. Head to the marked spot on the mini-map, tucked beneath the step pyramid.
Approach the locked Mayan door and select the “Place Stone” prompt. The door opens, revealing the chamber inside.

Move forward and climb the platforms upward to the top of the chamber. Equip the Legendary Mayan outfit waiting there. You also receive the Yax Tun Pendant, a Legendary Trinket whose perk absorbs all incoming gunshots.

Picking up the outfit and trinket closes out the Mayan Mysteries side quest. If the “Place Stone” prompt doesn’t appear, you are still short of the full 16, so re-check the paired islands at Misteriosa, Pinos Isle, and Isla Providencia, and confirm you have progressed far enough in the story to reach the three mission-locked steles.
