Palworld has left early access, and the 1.0 update is the largest change the game has ever seen. Pocketpair rebuilt or expanded nearly every major system, from the size of the map to how Pals grow and fight. If you played during early access, plenty of your old routines now work differently.

Quick answer: The five changes that matter most are the new Sunreach and World Tree regions, 72 new Pals with a level cap raised to 80, the Awakening and Mutation systems for stronger Pals, 13 new weapons plus a reworked combat flow, and a heavily expanded base-building system that now includes building on water.

Sunreach and the World Tree open up new regions

The headline addition is Sunreach, a chain of floating islands suspended above Palpagos and held up by the power of Paldium. It has its own environment, its own settlements, and Pals you cannot find anywhere else. It also brings new Tower Bosses and new ores that can only be mined with specialized equipment, so it functions as a full late-game destination rather than a small point of interest.

The World Tree has been visible since launch but locked off until now. In 1.0 it becomes the center of the endgame and the story, finally explaining why the factions have been fighting over the towers. It holds some of the toughest fights in the game and is the source of the Radiant Gems you need for the new Awakening system.

The existing map changed too. Seven new small islands were added across volcano, desert, and ruins biomes, each with exclusive Pals. Ancient Ruins scattered around the world hand out Schematics and other rewards through exploration and minigames, while Watchtowers reveal nearby terrain and act as fast-travel points. New settlements bring fresh NPCs and sub-missions, and enemy bases now appear at sea.

72 new Pals and a level cap of 80

Version 1.0 adds 72 new Pals, split into 47 completely new creatures and 25 variants of existing ones. That pushes the total roster to 287. You will find them across Sunreach, the World Tree, the reworked Wildlife Sanctuaries, and the rest of the map, so there is a reason to revisit older islands.

Pal habitats and spawn levels were rebalanced to fit each region more naturally, which changes how encounters feel as you travel. The player level cap also jumped from 65 to 80, opening up more ancient-civilization technology, higher-tier gear, and rebalanced late-game content built around the new curve.


Awakening and Mutation change how Pals grow

Awakening lets you push a favorite Pal past its old limits. You collect Radiant Gems from the World Tree, combine them into Awakening Gems, and use them on Pals of the matching element for a large stat boost. Awakened Pals gain a golden glow, and their level display glows in the party menu so you can tell them apart at a glance.

Mutation adds a rare outcome to breeding. Pals hatched from a mutated egg come with higher stats and a unique passive skill compared to their normal siblings. The chance is low, but new cake recipes exist specifically to improve your odds and your results.

Partner Skills were reworked for more than 200 Pals, with new detection, shield, elemental, and work-boosting effects. Many of these no longer stack when you run multiple copies of the same Pal, which pushes you toward more varied party builds. Condensation also got much friendlier, now requiring 48 Pals instead of 116 to hit maximum rank.


New weapons, gear, and a reworked combat flow

Movement and combat feel more responsive now. You can attack while dashing, keep reloading through a dodge, and hold better control during rolls. Nearly every Pal active skill was rebalanced, and a well-built Pal can now match or beat your own damage output. Wild Pals behave more intelligently, and Tower Bosses come with unique arenas, new attacks, and a five-minute time limit. Arena matches were shortened from five minutes to two.

The update brings 13 new weapons, ranging from conventional firearms to energy weapons and autonomous tools. The Plasma Rifle chains electrical damage between enemies, the Drone Launcher deploys combat drones, the Laser Sword is a high-output melee option, and the Beam Launcher fires an explosive energy beam. Beyond weapons, you can craft the Extra Weapon Holster to carry up to six weapons at once. New gear includes the Wing Pack, a glider that uses Wing Cells for free flight without a mount, plus the Plasma Multicutter, Ancient armor, 44 accessories, and implants. Two new ores, Soralite and Paloxite, feed into much of this crafting.


Bigger bases, smarter Work Pals, and wave-based raids

Base building got a large expansion. Aquatic Construction lets you build along shorelines and out at sea, and new ancient structures, inverted roof pieces, decorative plants, statues, and furniture give you far more design freedom. Work Pals now haul items more efficiently, chests can be named, and the crafting menu has search and category filters.

The Repair Kit is gone. Handiwork Pals now repair damaged structures on their own. New facilities include Clinics, upgraded Monitoring Stands, the Ancient Material Synthesizer, and the High-Pressure Crude Oil Extractor, which pulls oil without an oilfield. You can also fast travel directly from the map while inside a base zone.

Base defense changed as well. Raids now run in a wave-based format, so you have to survive several enemy groups before earning rewards. That makes walls, defensive structures, and where you position your Work Pals matter far more than before.


Palworld 1.0 is a free update for anyone who already owns the game, and existing save files still work. Pocketpair recommends starting fresh anyway, since the story, world, progression, and combat have all been reworked deeply enough that a returning save will skip past much of what the full release rebuilt.
