Chromite is a late-game mineral you need for high-tier weapons, advanced crafting stations, and endgame technology in Palworld. The fastest way to stockpile it is not random cliff mining. It comes from hunting the hidden nodes buried around Sakurajima using the Metal Detector, then multiplying each harvest with the Dark-type Pal Smokie.
Quick answer: Equip the Metal Detector, travel to Scorched Hill (-1191, -1254) or the Dark Flame Tunnel cave near the Hidden Passage to the Oculus Gate, and mine every node with a Refined Metal Pickaxe while Smokie’s “Dig, Dog! Dig!” skill is active to roughly double what each swing gives you.

Gear you need before farming Chromite
Chromite deposits are dense, so early tools waste time and durability. Two items make the run efficient. The Metal Detector reveals nodes hidden under the ground, and Smokie’s Harness lets you ride and command Smokie for the yield bonus. Both sit at Level 56 on the Technology tree.
| Item | Type | Crafting cost |
|---|---|---|
| Metal Detector | Weapon | Plasteel x30, Paldium Fragment x100, Circuit Board x30, Nightstar Sand x20 |
| Smokie’s Harness | Key Item | Leather x20, Fiber x50, Dark Fragment x10, Paldium Fragment x40 |
| Refined Metal Pickaxe | Tool | Used to mine each Chromite node |
Smokie is Paldeck No. 131, a Dark type whose habitat sits in the northeastern part of the Sakurajima island group. Its Partner Skill, “Dig, Dog! Dig!”, sniffs out nearby Chromite and hands you a large amount of it while it fights beside you.

Two spots give you the highest node density per trip. Both are fast-travel accessible, so you can loop between them once respawn timers reset.
Dark Flame Tunnel (cave route)

Scorched Hill (surface route, 7 nodes)
Fast travel to Scorched Hill at -1191, -1254 and sweep the area with the Metal Detector while mounted. Seven hidden nodes sit along a compact loop around the teleporter.
| Node | Where to look |
|---|---|
| 1 | Just southeast of the teleporter, by the edge of the green water pool |
| 2 | Northwest of the pool, up the hill near some trees |
| 3 | Further north, in the red-grass area |
| 4 | Northwest, beside a large skeletal rib cage structure |
| 5 | East of the rib cage, directly on the dirt path |
| 6 | Northeast, near the cliff edge over the red forest |
| 7 | West of node 6, on top of a rocky outcrop |
Before mining each node, dismount and trigger Smokie’s skill, so the resource multiplier applies to every swing, including the final outcrop node.

Why Smokie doubles your Chromite
A Refined Metal Pickaxe pulls Chromite x6 per swing on a standard node. With Smokie summoned and “Dig, Dog! Dig!” active, that output roughly doubles, and the skill also reveals hidden nodes the Metal Detector has not pinged yet. Holding the Partner Skill button (LB on controller) sends out a blue radar ring that detects buried ore around you.
Note: keep Smokie active for the actual mining, not just the search. The multiplier applies while you are striking the node, so summoning it after you already broke a deposit wastes the bonus.
Passive Chromite from a base
If Chromite nodes fall inside your base radius, Pals assigned to Mining harvest them automatically. Placing a mining-focused base near a cluster turns Chromite into steady passive income while you do other things.
| Base coordinates | Chromite nearby |
|---|---|
| -1174, -1268 | Lots of Chromite nodes just north of the base (also 2 Hexolite Quartz, 1 Oil) |
| -966, -882 | 4 Chromite nodes around the base (also 2 Hexolite Quartz) |
Station high Mining suitability Pals to break the nodes and Transport suitability Pals to move the heavy ore into chests. Build defensive walls, since Sakurajima and the surrounding late-game zones spawn stronger wild Pals that can interrupt mining.

What Chromite is used for
Chromite is a rare, high-tier ore tied to endgame progression. It feeds high-tier weapons, advanced crafting stations, industrial machinery, and late-game technology unlocks. Shift your farming priority toward it once mid-tier ores stop gating your tech tree and you move into industrial-stage crafting.
How to know the run worked and keep it going
You know the method is working when each mined node with Smokie active reads roughly twice the Chromite x6 base drop, and when the Metal Detector’s faster pinging surfaces dirt mounds with black flags you would otherwise walk past. If nodes stop appearing, they are on a respawn cooldown tied to in-game time cycles or a world reload, so rotate to the other location and come back once the timer resets.
The most common reasons a run underperforms are simple. Mining without Smokie summoned skips the yield bonus, ignoring the Metal Detector leaves buried nodes undiscovered, and overloading your carry weight forces early trips back to base. Bring transport Pals, keep storage close to your loops, and let the respawn timers do the rest.
