The Sprite Locator is a Gizmo in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3 that points you straight to a buried Sprite Chest, complete with a hologram of the Sprite waiting inside. It is not floor loot and you cannot buy it during a match. Instead, you earn it by grinding out Sprite Mastery, which makes it one of the later rewards in the Runners season.

Quick answer: Reach Mastery Rank on at least 17 Sprites by leveling each one to Level 5 and extracting it. Hitting 17 mastered Sprites drops 3 Sprite Locators into your inventory, and they stay tied to your account until you use them.

How to unlock the Sprite Locator in Fortnite

The Sprite Locator is locked entirely behind the Sprite Mastery track. To claim it, you need to master 17 different Sprites. Mastering a Sprite means two things happening in order. First you push that Sprite to Level 5, and then you extract it at an Extraction Site while it sits at max level. Completing both steps banks the mastery permanently, even if you later lose the Sprite in a match.

Once your 17th Sprite hits Mastery Rank, the reward pays out automatically. You receive 3 Sprite Locators, and they land directly in your inventory. These are exclusive to your account, so nobody can pick them off you between matches. You only consume them when you choose to use one during a run.

You know it worked when the Sprite Locators appear in your inventory count after crossing the 17-mastery threshold on the Sprite Mastery reward screen.

Speed up Sprite Mastery with Quack Snacks

Reaching 17 mastered Sprites is a grind, especially if you are newer to the season. Leveling normally happens through opening chests, getting eliminations, and extracting Sprites, and each Sprite only levels while equipped in your dedicated Sprite slot.

Quack Snacks are the fastest shortcut. Using one instantly raises your currently equipped Sprite by a level. You can find them as floor loot or in chests, or buy them from a Special-O-Matic vending machine for 1,500 Gold. Stack a few of these on a run and you can push a Sprite to Level 5 far quicker than grinding kills and chests alone.

Remember that leveling a Sprite is only half the job. You still have to extract that maxed Sprite to convert it into a mastery, so plan your run around reaching an Extraction Site before you die.

How to use the Sprite Locator during a match

Drop into a match, then open your Gizmo Wheel. The Sprite Locator sits in the slot where your pickaxe normally appears, on the left side of the wheel.
Equip the Sprite Locator and use it. It scans the area and locks onto a buried Sprite Chest near you. These chest locations are generated just for you, so other players will not see the same marker.
Follow the marker that appears on your screen. It points to the exact spot of the buried blue chest. A hologram shows which Sprite is inside, so you can decide whether that Sprite is worth the detour before you commit.
Once you reach the marker, dig up the chest with your pickaxe and open it. The Sprite and any loot inside are yours.

Keep the Sprite by extracting it

Digging up the chest does not guarantee you keep anything. The Sprite Locator itself is lost if you are eliminated, and so is the Sprite you pulled from the buried chest. To add that Sprite to your permanent collection, you have to carry it to an Extraction Site, call in the crate, and survive the extraction.

Because each Locator is a one-time consumable tied to your account, save them for runs where you can realistically fight your way to an extraction. Treat the dig as the start of the play, not the finish. The Sprite only becomes yours for good once it clears extraction and shows up in your collection afterward.
