Anime Expeditions: How to Get and Evolve Elf Mage (Frieren)

Every banner, material, and trial you need to turn the Mythic Elf Mage into Elf Mage (Unleashed).

Every banner, material, and trial you need to turn the Mythic Elf Mage into Elf Mage (Unleashed).

Elf Mage is the Mythic unit modeled on the lead of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, and in Anime Expeditions she is a magic damage dealer built around stacking Arcane Charges into line, circle, and full area attacks. To reach her full kit you summon the base unit, clear her own trial for Cosmic Magic, and craft the evolution into Elf Mage (Unleashed).

Quick answer: Pull Elf Mage from a banner that shows her portrait, clear the Elf Mage Trial to earn 1x Cosmic Magic, gather 20x Sprite (Blue), 20x Sprite (Purple), 1x Sprite (Rainbow), and 5,000 Gold, then confirm the evolution to get Elf Mage (Unleashed).

Elf Mage unit basics

In the unit menu and on banners the character is listed as Elf Mage, not Frieren, and her evolved form is Elf Mage (Unleashed). She deals Magical archetype damage with the Storm element and has a placement limit of 3. Her base deployment cost is 1,000 Yen.

Deploy her next to Forbidden Teacher when you can. That unit raises the damage of all Magical units in range, so it directly boosts Elf Mage’s output.

Where to summon Elf Mage

You can find her on three banners, each accessed through the Summons NPC in the lobby. The most important rule is to spend only when her portrait is actually visible, because a Mythic pull is not the same as an Elf Mage pull.

BannerMythic chanceElf Mage odds within Mythics
Beginner Banner (Beginner’s Tickets)0.2%Fixed 12.5% of the Mythic pool
Standard Banner (rotates every 30 min)0.5%50% when she is the featured Mythic
Mini Banner (single Mythic)0.5%She is the only featured Mythic when shown

The Standard and Mini banners carry a pity of 400 summons at a 0.5% base rate. Pity guarantees a Mythic, so time your big sessions for a rotation where Elf Mage is on the banner to avoid landing a different Mythic. Once she is in your inventory, reroll her stats and give her a strong trait before you invest further.

Evolution materials for Elf Mage (Unleashed)

Evolving turns Elf Mage into Elf Mage (Unleashed) and adds two extra upgrade tiers along with her full passive kit. You need the base unit plus every item below.

Clear the Elf Mage Trial for Cosmic Magic

Cosmic Magic drops from completing the Elf Mage Trial, The Last Great Eleven Mage, which you open from the quest or unit menu after you own the base unit.

Open Elf Mage in the quest or unit menu and enter her trial from there.
Place Elf Mage early. The trial gives her a bonus damage buff, and it allows three of her placements, so lean on her rather than unrelated units.
Cover the path with slow and freeze effects and a magic-unit buff so she has time to attack while your income builds. If fast enemies leak past your first spot, add a second Elf Mage farther along the route instead of over-upgrading one placement.
Beat the boss, which arrives with around 100,000 HP and regeneration. Cluster your damage where support effects overlap so the regen cannot outpace you. Clearing the trial adds Cosmic Magic to your inventory, confirming the reward.

Complete the evolution

With the trial cleared and materials gathered, finishing the upgrade is quick.

Craft any missing Sprites from the evolution screen if you farmed the base materials rather than the finished pieces.
Select Elf Mage, add Cosmic Magic, the 20x Sprite (Blue), 20x Sprite (Purple), 1x Sprite (Rainbow), and 5,000 Gold, then confirm. The unit changes to Elf Mage (Unleashed) with her new passive and extra upgrade tiers unlocked, which is how you know it worked.

Elf Mage (Unleashed) passives and charge thresholds

The evolved unit builds Arcane Charges and converts them into follow-up spells. Her core typings shift to Light and Magical, and she keeps the placement limit of 3.

  • Arcane Magic — Each regular attack grants 1 Arcane Charge, up to a capacity of 7. Charges reset after exceeding capacity.
  • Overcharge — On each charge reset, Arcane Spells damage increases by 5%, up to a capacity of 5.
  • Arcane Spells — These count as Follow-Up Attacks and fire automatically at the charge thresholds below.
ChargesSpellEffect
3Old MagicLine AoE at 100% current damage
5EruptionCircle AoE at 100% current damage, inflicts Mana Burn
7StormFull AoE at 100% current damage

Elf Mage (Unleashed) needs steady Yen to reach her ceiling, since her damage grows with every upgrade. Pair her with farm units such as Ramen Guy and Stone Alchemist to bank currency quickly and push her upgrades, then let the Arcane Charge chain do the clearing across shaped area attacks.
