Universal Tower Defense: Solo AFK Boss Rush Setup (Update 4.0)

The exact units, relics, and placements that clear Reaper City Boss Rush on Nightmare hands-free.

The exact units, relics, and placements that clear Reaper City Boss Rush on Nightmare hands-free.

Reaper City Boss Rush on Nightmare can be cleared solo and left to run itself in Universal Tower Defense Update 4.0. The setup leans on one money generator, a Pirate King that can be re-placed for free, and two elemental damage units that punish the stage’s Ice enemies. Once the run works once, you record it as a macro and repeat it for badges and gems without playing manually.

Quick answer: Place Bulma for income, put down a Pirate King you sell and re-place each wave for free, add Joyful Captain (Fire) and Zoro (Wind) as your main damage against the Ice enemies, buff them with Crow Shinobi and Prodigy Mage, then record the whole run as a macro to loop it AFK.

Stage conditions for Reaper City Boss Rush

The run takes place on the Reaper City – Act Boss Rush stage across 30 waves on Nightmare difficulty. Enemies carry the Ice element, which makes Wind and Fire the strong counter elements. Your damage plan is built entirely around that weakness, so Fire and Wind DPS do the heavy lifting while a control unit locks the path.

Units and relics you need

Six units carry the run. Bulma exists only to make money, Pirate King handles early defense and freeze utility, and Joyful Captain plus Zoro are the primary DPS matched to the stage element. Crow Shinobi and Prodigy Mage sit on crates and buff the carries. The relics below match how each unit is geared.

The Pirate King free-replacement trick

The core of the strategy is Pirate King’s passive, The Spark of the Great Era. When you sell Pirate King and place a new one, he keeps every upgrade and costs 0 Yen to set down again. That lets you shift him further up the path or reset his position each wave without losing progress or spending money.

You repeat this sell-and-replace several times through the run to keep his range and freeze on the newest section of the path. It is also how you secure the final waves against The Fatality and The King, since you can re-position him for full path coverage right before the bosses arrive.

Wave-by-wave placement

Before the match starts, use the pre-game [Switch Units] prompt to confirm your six units. On Wave 1 with 500 Yen, place Bulma near the center of the map and put Pirate King close to the enemy spawn path so he carries the early waves.
On Wave 2, set Crow Shinobi on a wooden crate near the corner of the path and place Prodigy Mage on an adjacent crate. That corner is picked for its long path coverage, which keeps the buffs and damage over enemies for longer.
Around Wave 4, sell Pirate King for 1,000 Yen and immediately re-place him further up the path to extend his range. Open the Units Manager and toggle [Auto-Upgrade] to ON for Bulma so her money generation climbs on its own.
By Wave 7, push Bulma to MAX level and sell-replace Pirate King again near the crates. His passive means the replacement is free and keeps all his upgrades.
At Wave 10, place Joyful Captain near the crates and upgrade his first path to unlock Bounce Man, then upgrade his second path. Toggle Auto-Upgrade ON for him, open his menu, click [Charge], set the Custom Attack Speed to 1 SPA, and confirm.
From Wave 11 through 18, add more copies of Crow Shinobi and Prodigy Mage on the crates. Use Prodigy Mage’s active ability, Party’s Tactician, to pair the supports with Joyful Captain and Pirate King for attack speed and range. Place and fully upgrade Zoro near the defense point as your Wind carry.
Between Wave 24 and 30, toggle Auto-Upgrade ON for the remaining Crow Shinobi and Prodigy Mage to max them, confirm every support is paired through Party’s Tactician, and sell-replace Pirate King one final time to lock the path before the bosses.

Why the element pairing matters

Ice enemies take extra damage from Wind and Fire, so Joyful Captain (Fire) and Zoro (Wind) are the two units that actually kill the waves. Pirate King is not there for raw damage; his job is the stun and freeze that hold enemies in place while the carries hit them. Keeping that split clear is what makes the clear consistent rather than relying on overwhelming numbers.

Record the run as an AFK macro

The stage uses a built-in Macro menu on the right side of the screen, so you can capture the entire winning run and replay it for AFK farming.

In the pre-game lobby, open the Macro menu, click [Delete] on Slot 1, then click [Load] on the empty slot and hit the record button so it shows [Recording..].
Click [Start 0/1] at the top to begin the match and play through the placement sequence above exactly once.
When the match ends, stop the recording. The prompt "Saved your recording to Slot 1 when the match ended!" confirms the macro is stored and ready to replay for future runs.

How you know it worked

A successful clear ends with The King defeated and the victory screen reading Reaper City Won on Nightmare. A full run lands around a play time of 00:26:23, and the reward payout confirms the clear.

The same crate-and-corner logic transfers to Reaper City – Act 5, where Bulma and Pirate King start in similar spots and Joyful Captain goes on the corner of the loop to widen his area coverage. Once your relics and units match the table, the recorded macro turns Boss Rush into a repeatable farm you can start and walk away from. You can jump into the stage directly through the official Universal Tower Defense Roblox page.
