Kylian Mbappé Fronts EA Sports FC 27 as Ultimate Edition Cover Star

The Real Madrid forward returns to the franchise cover after four years, ahead of a July 23 gameplay reveal.

Kylian Mbappé is the cover athlete for EA Sports FC 27, putting the Real Madrid forward back on the front of Electronic Arts’ football series for the first time in four years. The reveal shows him in Real Madrid’s white kit, and it opens a full week of announcements leading into this year’s game.

Quick answer: Mbappé is the cover star for the EA Sports FC 27 Ultimate Edition and also fronts EA Sports FC Mobile. A gameplay trailer premieres on YouTube on Thursday, July 23, 2026 at 9am PT / 5pm BST / 6pm CEST.

Where Mbappé appears on FC 27

The reveal so far covers two products. Mbappé leads the Ultimate Edition box art and is the face of the mobile game as well. Standard edition art, edition tiers, and pricing were not confirmed alongside the announcement.

Why Mbappé got the cover

EA tied the pick to his recent club and international form. Since joining Real Madrid in 2024, Mbappé has finished as LALIGA EA Sports’ top scorer in each of his two seasons in Spain and won the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League Golden Boot after scoring 15 goals in the competition.

He carried that form into the summer with France. He left the 2026 World Cup with the tournament’s Golden Boot, and his goal tally set a new record for the most World Cup goals by a single player, edging past Lionel Messi. France finished fourth after a 4-6 loss to England.

Kylian’s achievements for both club and country have established him as one of the defining players of his generation.

That line came from Jeff Sharma, Vice President of Franchise Strategy and Marketing at EA Sports FC, who said the team is “thrilled to welcome Kylian back” as FC 27’s cover star.

A return, not a debut

This is a comeback rather than a first appearance. Mbappé previously fronted the series during the FIFA era, most notably on FIFA 22, when he was still at Paris Saint-Germain. FC 27 is his first cover under the EA Sports FC brand after the rebrand from FIFA, and the first with him in Real Madrid colours.

He replaces his Real Madrid teammate Jude Bellingham, who led the EA Sports FC 26 cover. In his own words, Mbappé called the moment “a very special moment for me” and said he was proud to continue his “long-term relationship with the franchise in its latest chapter.”

Gameplay reveal and release date

The cover announcement is the first beat in a wider reveal week. The next confirmed date is the gameplay trailer, which goes live on YouTube on Thursday, July 23, 2026 at 9am PT / 5pm BST / 6pm CEST. That premiere should give the clearest look yet at what is changing on the pitch this year.

A release date has not been set as part of this reveal. Details on editions, pricing, Ultimate Team, Career Mode, Clubs, and the Icons line-up have not been confirmed, so expect those to surface through the rest of the announcement week.
