Because the cost is so much lower, condensing is no longer reserved for one or two favorites. At 48 copies, it is realistic to max-rank a full working base team and a combat roster, especially now that a Capture Bonus completes in five catches instead of twelve.

Only the 48 total is a verified number. Pocketpair has not published a rank-by-rank breakdown for the new system, so there is no confirmed figure for how many copies each individual star now costs. Treat any exact per-star claim with caution until you check it against the live Condenser.
For reference, the old pre-1.0 curve charged 4 copies for ☆1, 16 for ☆2, 32 for ☆3, and 64 for ☆4, summing to 116. The rework redesigned the work-suitability side rather than simply scaling the old numbers down, so do not assume the new curve is just the old one cut in half.

What each condense rank actually gives you
Three systems change as a Pal climbs from ☆0 to ☆4. Two are guaranteed at every rank, one is partly random until the top.
- Stats: Each rank adds a flat 5% to Max HP, Attack, and Defense, stacking to 20% at ☆4. The gain is a percentage of the Pal’s base stats, so a Pal with 1,200 base Attack picks up about 240 at max, while a 300-Attack Pal gains only 60.
- Partner Skill level: Climbs from 1 at ☆0 to 5 at ☆4, strengthening that Pal’s passive combat or riding bonus.
- Work Suitability: Each rank-up raises one of the Pal’s existing suitabilities, but the patch does not promise which job gets picked at intermediate ranks. Only ☆4 raises all of them at once.
The Work Suitability ladder expanded from four levels to ten in 1.0. That makes the random intermediate pick matter: if you condense a Handiwork specialist hoping to boost Handiwork, a mid-rank might improve Mining instead and leave the job you wanted stuck until you reach ☆4.
Fodder rules that waste copies if you ignore them
Two quirks decide whether your 48 copies are spent efficiently or thrown away. Know both before you start sacrificing Pals, because condensation is permanent and sacrificed Pals are gone for good.
- A Pal that is already partly condensed counts as more than one fodder unit. A ☆1 duplicate is worth roughly five sacrifices, not one.
- The Condenser does not bank overflow. Feeding more than a rank requires wastes the extra copies, so feed exactly what the current rank asks for.
You will know it worked when the star icon on the Pal’s summary updates and its HP, Attack, and Defense values rise. There is no undo, so confirm you are condensing the right keeper before committing.
Skip the grind with Starfruit
If you do not want to farm 47 duplicates, the Medal Merchant found in Desolate Church-type ruins sells Starfruit for Dog Coins. Each Starfruit instantly grants one rank with no duplicate Pal required, and the price rises the higher you push.

There is also Ripe Starfruit, bought from a PIDF Bounty Officer for 50 Bounty Tokens. It raises rank by one regardless of the Pal’s current star level, which makes it a useful top-up when you are a single duplicate short of the next rank.
Legendary and Alpha Pals: use Starfruit, not duplicates
Legendary Pals such as Jetragon, Necromus, Paladius, and Frostallion break the normal plan because you usually catch only one. The only way to produce a second copy is to breed two of the same Legendary together, which means catching or breeding toward a second wild spawn first, since Legendaries cannot cross-breed with other species and still produce a Legendary.
Repeating that 47 times is not realistic, so Starfruit is the practical path for boss-tier Pals. Saving 750 Dog Coins for one Legendary is a defined, farmable goal, while breeding 47 more Jetragons is a grind most players never finish. If you are building a team around a specific Legendary, budget Dog Coin farming into your progression instead of a duplicate hunt.
