Santa Monica Studio set the launch for February 16th, 2027, as a PS5 exclusive with no pre-orders yet.

God of War Laufey has a firm launch day. Santa Monica Studio confirmed the game arrives on February 16th, 2027, exclusively on PS5, ending months of guesswork after the initial reveal shipped with only a vague “coming soon” tag.

Quick answer: God of War Laufey releases February 16th, 2027 on PS5. It launches both digitally and on disc. Pre-orders and pricing have not opened yet.

Release status and where it launches

The date is confirmed, not a window. Santa Monica Studio revealed it during the game’s San Diego Comic-Con panel and pushed the date out on social media as a short video carrying the “2.16.27” title card. There was no gameplay footage in that clip, but the date itself is locked.

Note: The announcement did not include a specific launch time or region-by-region timing, so treat February 16th as the confirmed calendar day until Santa Monica adds more detail.

How to wishlist and prepare for pre-orders

With the date set, you can add the game to your list on the PlayStation Store while you wait for pre-orders to go live.

Search for God of War Laufey on the PlayStation Store and wishlist it. This puts the title in your account so you get notified when a pre-order option and price appear.
Decide between digital and disc. Because the game ships physically, a boxed copy is an option alongside the digital version, so hold off on committing until pricing is published.

You will know pre-orders are live when the wishlist entry switches to a purchase button with a listed price. Until then, no payment or reservation is possible.

What God of War Laufey is about

The game centers on Faye, Kratos’s late wife, after her death. She wakes in the gods’ afterlife and works to protect her family, with the story filling in her backstory and her connection to events players already saw in God of War Ragnarok. Kratos and Atreus appear as they burn her body, and she catches glimpses of him from within the afterlife.

The cast includes Deborah Ann Woll, Christopher Judge, Jack Quaid, and Perlina Lau, with Ariel Lawrence directing and Cory Barlog serving as creative lead. Both appeared at the Comic-Con panel to talk through the characters and the game’s direction.

A new Kratos-led God of War is also coming

Barlog used the same panel to confirm that a separate God of War starring Kratos is in development and will launch after Laufey. The two titles are being built to connect, with the Kratos game continuing threads set up in Laufey’s story. No release window was given for that project, and it is a different game from the remake of the original God of War trilogy.

A February launch keeps God of War close to its usual early-year slot. Most mainline entries have landed in spring, so a mid-February date for Laufey lines up with the series’ history while giving PlayStation an early exclusive for 2027. For now, the one detail worth marking down is the date itself, and the rest, including price and pre-order timing, will follow before launch.
