Fisch: How to Get the Mastered Mutation

The exact rod and catch conditions that trigger Fisch's 8× value Mastered mutation, plus how to confirm it landed.

The exact rod and catch conditions that trigger Fisch’s 8× value Mastered mutation, plus how to confirm it landed.

The Mastered mutation is one of the most valuable modifiers you can slap on a fish in Fisch, and it multiplies that fish’s sell value by 8×. It doesn’t spawn out in the world and you can’t roll it through appraisals, which is why so many players never see it by accident. There’s exactly one path to it.

Quick answer: Catch a fish with the Ruinous Oath rod. A perfect catch applies Mastered at a 100% chance, and a non-perfect catch still gives you a 25% chance. No other rod produces it.

What the Mastered mutation does

Mastered is a sell-value mutation. A fish carrying it sells for 8× its normal price, which makes it one of the strongest money modifiers in the game. It is unappraisable, so you can’t reroll it or add it after the fact through the appraisal system.

You’ll spot it immediately. A Mastered fish glows with a sandy, colored texture that cycles between red and blue, with matching particles drifting around the body as the color shifts. The exact colors are randomized based on the fish’s weight, and the glow usually replaces the fish’s normal pattern.

How to get Mastered with the Ruinous Oath rod

The Ruinous Oath rod is the only tool that can apply Mastered. Your catch quality decides the odds, so aiming for a perfect catch guarantees the mutation every single time.

Catch condition (Ruinous Oath)Mastered chance
Perfect catch100%
Non-perfect catch25%
Equip the Ruinous Oath rod before you cast. Any other rod, even on a flawless catch, will not produce the mutation.
Cast and reel as normal. During the perfect catch, the control bar shrinks over time while the capture progress speed climbs by 5% each second, so keep the marker locked in as the window tightens.
Land a perfect catch to lock in Mastered at 100%. If you miss the perfect timing, you still have a 25% shot at the mutation on that catch.

You can fish in Fisch directly through its official Roblox page on PC or the mobile apps.

Ruinous Oath rod stats

The Ruinous Oath is a late-game rod built around high luck and tough catches, which is why it pairs so well with farming Mastered fish. Its perfect catch passive is where the mutation comes from.

How to confirm the mutation landed

After the catch resolves, check the fish. If Mastered applied, the body will show the glowing red-to-blue cycling texture with particles around it, and the fish’s listed sell value will read 8× higher than its base price. If the fish looks normal and sells for its standard amount, the mutation didn’t roll on a non-perfect catch, so land a perfect catch on your next attempt to guarantee it.

Mastered value changes by version

The mutation arrived in Version 1.50.0 and has been rebalanced several times since. Its multiplier started far higher and its rod requirements narrowed over time, so older guides that quote a bigger number or a second rod are out of date.

VersionChange
1.50.0Mastered released; catchable with Ruinous Oath and Luminescent Oath
1.50.1Multiplier lowered from 18× to 16×
1.58.0Multiplier lowered from 16× to 9×
1.82.0Multiplier lowered from 9× to 8×; Luminescent Oath chance removed

The takeaway is simple. The Ruinous Oath rod is now your one route to Mastered, and a perfect catch turns it into a sure thing. Keep that rod equipped, focus on nailing the shrinking control bar, and every clean catch becomes an 8× payday.
