The Hard Mode version of Axel and Orserk is a Level 80 endgame rematch that pushes the boss to 514,800 HP and drops two extra enemies into the arena the moment you enter. Orserk keeps its Dragon and Electric typing, so Ground and Ice attacks remain your fastest way through. The real difference is the DPS check, the added mechanics, and the reward pool that includes the Legendary Heat-Resistant Ancient Armor Schematic.
Quick answer: Bring a maxed Ground or Ice Pal (Knocklem or Anubis), stack Weak Point damage with Turtacle Terra, keep a Drone Launcher active to hold Orserk’s Attack and Defense buff, kill the two Lux Pals first, and never stand in the middle pillars where Axel spawns the electric fence.
How to unlock Hard Mode Axel and Orserk
The Hard Mode rematch opens only after you defeat Auri and Shaolong, the Sunreach faction boss. Until that clear, the tower stays on its Normal Mode Level 40 version. The fight itself takes place at the same spot as before, inside the Tower of the Brothers of the Eternal Pyre on Mount Obsidian, and you still need heat protection just to reach the door.

Orserk is a Dragon and Electric Pal, which means it takes extra damage from both Ground and Ice attacks. The catch on Hard Mode is that it also throws Grass moves, so a Ground attacker still needs to be pulled back at the right moments. The first clear guarantees the Axel Hat, with a 10 percent chance at the Legendary Heat-Resistant Ancient Armor Schematic on top of Stamina Lotus (L) and a Training Crystal.

Best Pals to bring
Two paths work here. A Pal-damage build leans on Knocklem, while a player-damage build puts your weapon element to work through Anubis or Icelyn. Moldron Cryst is the strongest Ice or Ground alternative if you want a single Pal that covers both weaknesses.
| Pal | Rating | Why it works |
|---|---|---|
Knocklem | ★★★★★ | Partner Skill massively raises its Attack and Defense; Ground Cutter hits hard with good accuracy. |
Anubis | ★★★★☆ | Partner Skill converts your weapon to Ground and gives a 50% Attack boost. Best on a player-damage build. |
Moldron Cryst | ★★★★☆ | Attack scales with the number of Ice and Ground allies in your party. Solid Knocklem stand-in. |
Icelyn | ★★★☆☆ | Partner Skill turns your weapon to Ice with an Attack boost. Ice alternative to Anubis for gun builds. |
Minimum Pal requirements
Because this is an endgame check, your active Pal needs to be built to the top before you queue. That means Level 80, Pal Soul upgrades of HP +20, Atk +20, and Def +20, a Trust Level of 7 or higher, 4 Star Condensed, and Awakened. Skipping any of these usually means you run out of time on the clock.
Team setups that clear the fight
Quick Swap Knocklem team
Run two Knocklem as your active Pals, both with Serenity, Earth Emperor, Immortality, and Diamond Body. Trigger one Knocklem’s Partner Skill to attack, then switch to the second whenever the first goes on cooldown. As long as you manage your own HP and your Knocklem stats are maxed, you keep steady pressure without gaps.
| Role | Pals |
|---|---|
| Active | Knocklem, Knocklem |
| Support | Turtacle Terra, Orserk, Silvegis |
Turtacle Terra turns type weaknesses into Weak Point damage, so Orserk takes even more from Ground hits. Pair that with Orserk’s own Attack and Defense buff and Silvegis boosting your shield and shield regeneration, and Knocklem has both the offense and survivability to grind the boss down. Use the Megaboost Gun to power up your Pal when you are farming the fight for the schematic.
Anubis Plasma Rifle team
This build shifts damage onto the player. Run Anubis with Sanctified Meat Shield, Serenity, Idiosyncratic, and Vanguard, then support with Turtacle Terra, Pierdon, Cryolinx Terra, and Solenne. It requires real investment in your Player Attack stat through accessories and stat allocation.
| Role | Pals |
|---|---|
| Active | Anubis |
| Support | Turtacle Terra, Pierdon, Cryolinx Terra, Solenne |
Activate Anubis to change your weapon to Ground and gain an Attack boost, then aim the Plasma Rifle at Axel or Orserk’s head for Weak Point damage. Pierdon amplifies damage after Anubis applies Muddy, Cryolinx Terra raises your Weak Point damage further, and Solenne adds an 80% Attack buff. Stacking those support skills is what makes this setup delete the boss quickly.
Weapons, armor, and accessories
Keep the Drone Launcher firing to hold Orserk’s Partner Skill buff, and use the Plasma Rifle as your on-hand weapon for Weak Point shots and Pal debuffs. Since these are endgame enemies, use the highest-defense armor you have, and at minimum equip the full Ancient Armor set.
| Weapon | Lv. | Attack | Durability |
|---|---|---|---|
Megaboost Gun | 63 | 250 | 400 |
Mechanical Bow | 67 | 20000 | 2000 |
Drone Launcher | 77 | 200 | 6500 |
Plasma Rifle | 78 | 1860 | 25000 |
| Armor | HP | Def | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
Ancient Shield | N/A | 2200 | None |
| Ancient Helm | 1200 | 500 | Neutral + Dragon Damage Reduction Lv. 1 |
| Lightweight Ancient Armor | 2400 | 840 | Cold Res Lv. 2 / Heat Res Lv. 2 / Carry Capacity Lv. 4 |
For accessories, prioritize the element the boss is weak to. The Dogen Emblem is the usual pick because it raises both your Attack and your active Pal’s Attack. Ice-focused runs benefit from the Ice Emperor’s Baton, Frostallion’s Talisman, and the Cryolinx Ring, which also cuts incoming Dragon damage.
| Accessory | Effect |
|---|---|
Dogen Emblem | Greatly raises your Attack and your active Pal’s Attack. |
Ice Emperor’s Baton | Raises the active Pal’s Attack and significantly increases Ice damage. |
Frostallion’s Talisman | Raises the active Pal’s Defense and increases its Ice damage. |
Cryolinx Ring | Reduces incoming Dragon damage and increases the active Pal’s Ice damage. |
Note: Because the tower has a time limit, favor food that boosts damage over defense. Broncherry Fried Noodles and Mammorest Curry are strong picks, and you should carry High Quality Recovery Meds, Advanced Recovery Meds, and a Revival Potion in case a Pal drops.
Fight strategy

| Pal | Partner Skill |
|---|---|
| Orserk | Ferocious Thunder Dragon — hitting an enemy with a bullet raises your active Pal’s Attack and Defense by up to 5% for 5 seconds, stacking up to 30 times. |
Key attacks to dodge
Orserk’s Hard Mode moveset mixes Electric, Dragon, and Grass skills. Polykeraunos launches a wave of thunder spears with the first one exploding after a delay, while All Range Thunder sends lightning in straight lines across the arena. Beam Slicer and Charge Cannon carry heavy Dragon damage and can burn, so treat both as high-priority dodges.
| Attack | Element | Power | CT |
|---|---|---|---|
| Polykeraunos | Electric | 600 | 30 |
| Thunder Rail | Electric | 600 | 30 |
| All Range Thunder | Electric | 500 | 24 |
| Crosswind | Grass | 500 | 24 |
| Reflect Leaf | Grass | 400 | 20 |
| Charge Cannon | Dragon | 400 | 20 |
| Beam Slicer | Dragon | 350 | 16 |
| Wind Edge | Grass | 200 | 12 |
| Comet Strike | Dragon | 180 | 8 |
When Axel and Orserk go down, the “BOSS ELIMINATED” prompt confirms the clear, and the first-time reward drops the Axel Hat with a shot at the Legendary Heat-Resistant Ancient Armor Schematic. If the schematic does not drop, the fight is fully repeatable, so keep your drones and buff-stacking rotation tight and run it again. The build that clears it once will farm it just as fast.
