Displaying a Sprite on your back in Fortnite Runners comes down to one Back Bling, the Sprite Mastery Pod, and one requirement most players miss. Owning a Sprite does not make it selectable. You have to reach Mastery Rank with it first, which means hitting Level 5 in a match and then extracting it while it is still at that level.
Quick answer: Claim the Sprite Mastery Pod from Page 1 of the Chapter 7 Season 3 Battle Pass, level any qualifying Sprite to 5 in a run and extract it, then open your Character Locker, select the Sprite Mastery Pod under Back Blings, click Edit Style, and pick the mastered Sprite.

What you need before any Sprite can be displayed
The Sprite Mastery Pod is a Back Bling reward tied to The Guardian outfit on Page 1 of the Chapter 7 Season 3 Battle Pass. It works like a small glass display case worn on your back, so the Sprite inside it cannot be stolen by other players during a match. It was first introduced as the Sprite Pod and renamed to the Sprite Mastery Pod in the v41.10 update.
Owning the Battle Pass and claiming the pod is not optional. If you have not claimed it, the option to show a Sprite on your back will not appear in your locker at all. You can still earn mastered status and reward-track progress without the pass, but you cannot display anything until the pod is on your account.

Add to Google Preferences →Why your Sprite shows as locked
A Sprite you already own can still appear locked inside the pod. That is expected behavior. To unlock a Sprite for display, it has to hit Mastery Rank, and that takes two things in the same match.
- Level that Sprite up to Level 5 during a run.
- Extract it while it is at Level 5, using an Extraction Site or a Portable Extractor.
Do both, and the Sprite is permanently flagged as mastered on your account. If you reach Level 5 but never extract it, the mastery does not register, even though you hit the level cap in that match. Extracting the same Sprite earlier at a lower level also does not count. The extraction has to happen at Level 5.
How to equip a Sprite as a Back Bling
Note: To confirm a specific Sprite qualifies before you head into the locker, open your Sprites tab and look for a crown icon above it. The crown means the Sprite hit Level 5 and was extracted successfully. No crown means it either never reached Level 5 or was leveled but never extracted.

Fastest way to reach Mastery Rank
A Sprite earns experience three ways, from opening containers, eliminating opponents, and extracting. Because Level 5 rarely happens in a single run, a two-match rhythm is the most reliable approach.
- Drop in with your target Sprite and push it to around Level 3 early, when eliminations come more easily.
- Extract at Level 3 to lock that progress in.
- Start the next match with the same Sprite and grind it from 3 to 5.
- Carry a Portable Extractor so you can pull it the instant it hits Level 5, without risking a run to a fixed Extraction Site.
For a concentrated source of experience, the underground teleporter tunnels around the Chapter 7 Season 3 map are packed with chests. Each container adds points toward your Sprite Level, and eliminating an enemy inside a tunnel adds more. Bouncing between teleporters lets you clear a large number of containers in one sitting. Logging in during Mastery Monday, which runs for 24 hours starting 9 a.m. ET every Monday, doubles the points earned toward leveling a Sprite.

What mastery carries over, and what it doesn’t
Mastery is account progression, not a permanent power boost, and that trips up a lot of players. Once a Sprite is mastered, it stays flagged that way for the rest of the season no matter what happens to it, it advances your Sprite Mastery reward track, and it becomes permanently selectable in the pod.
What does not carry over is in-match strength. If you die holding a mastered Sprite without extracting, it drops back to Level 1 in your inventory for that run, but the mastered flag on your account stays intact. Every time you summon a mastered Sprite with Sprite Dust in a future match, it starts again at Level 1 and has to be re-leveled to reach full strength. Mastery permanently unlocks the cosmetic and the reward track. It does not mean the Sprite walks into every match already maxed.

Which Sprites can go in the Sprite Mastery Pod
79 Sprites can be shown in the pod, covering base forms and variants such as Gold, Gummy, Galaxy, Gem, Holofoil, and Cube. The purely cosmetic Burnt Peanut Sprite qualifies as well, and the newer Striker and Fishy Sprites slot in once mastered. The full roster of displayable Sprites is below.
| Sprite | Variants that qualify |
|---|---|
| Water | Base, Gold, Gummy, Galaxy, Gem, Holofoil |
| Earth | Base, Gold, Gummy, Galaxy, Gem, Cube |
| Fire | Base, Gold, Gummy, Galaxy, Holofoil, Cube |
| Duck | Base, Gold, Gummy, Galaxy, Gem |
| Ghost | Base, Gold, Gummy, Galaxy, Holofoil |
| Demon | Base, Gold, Gummy, Galaxy, Gem |
| King | Base, Gold, Gummy, Galaxy, Holofoil |
| Dream | Base, Gold, Gummy, Galaxy, Cube |
| Punk | Base, Gold, Gummy, Galaxy, Cube |
| Zero Point | Base, Gold, Gummy, Galaxy, Gem, Cube |
| Fishy | Base, Gold, Gummy, Galaxy, Cube |
| Striker | Base, Gold, Gummy, Galaxy, Holofoil |
| Aura | Base, Gold, Gummy, Galaxy, Gem |
| Boss | Base, Gold, Gummy, Galaxy, Cube |
| Grim | Base, Gold, Gummy, Galaxy |
| Burnt Peanut | Base |
A handful of Sprites cannot be placed in the pod even after you reach Level 5 and extract them, most likely because they come from collaborations with their own licensing rules. These are Batman (Base, Gold, Gummy, Galaxy, Holofoil, and Cube), Vini Jr. (Base), Seven (Base, Gold, Gummy, Galaxy, and Holofoil), and Pollo (Base). Level them up if you want the reward-track progress, but they will not appear as a display style.
Once the crown appears over a Sprite and it shows up in the Edit Style grid, you are done. Keep in mind the display window is tied to the season, so any Sprite you want on your back needs to reach Mastery Rank before Chapter 7 Season 3 ends, or it will drop out of the pod’s selectable list.
