Worm Food picks up right after Corvus falls at the end of Chapter 7, Root Rot, and drops Emma into the Crater Zone. This is a dense stretch of the game packed with Purifiers, golems, and a Withered Beast, and it ends with a two-phase boss fight against the Cavern Nushi. The chapter also pushes the story toward its final act, so expect a heavier tone alongside the tougher combat.
Quick answer: Beat the Purifier on arrival, speak to the Ancient Golem to learn about the gate, reach the fortress in the crater, use the console to raise the central tower, climb it to unlock the sealed Bulkhead, then enter the cavern and defeat the Cavern Nushi (Taurus) across both phases to end Chapter 8.

Arrive in the Crater Zone and beat the Purifier
The chapter opens the moment you step out of the vehicle and start moving toward the crater. A Purifier ambushes Emma almost immediately, so treat this as a forced fight rather than an optional encounter.

Learn how to open the cavern gate
After the Purifier, Brad gives you the main task for the chapter. You need to find the entrance to the deep cave that leads to the Inukami River Colony, and that means figuring out how the gate works.

Reach the fortress in the crater
Getting to the fortress means moving between camps and clearing groups of Purifiers on the way. Set up the route before you push inside so you have safe rest points and know where the merchant is.

Raise the tower and unlock the Bulkhead
Inside the fortress you’ll use two consoles. The first raises a central tower out of the water, and the second, at the top of that tower, releases the seal on the Bulkhead back at the merchant.

Defeat the Cavern Nushi (Taurus)
With the Bulkhead open, return to the merchant’s location and enter the cavern. The Cavern Nushi here is the Taurus, and it fights across two phases. The second phase is noticeably more aggressive than the first, and the Taurus leans on wide, powerful area attacks, so keep space and watch for the wind-up on those sweeps.

Parrying matters here, because a clean parry refills FP and lets you fire off Koo’s Bloom Arts against the boss. Remember you can’t use the same Bloom Art twice in a row, so open with the art the Taurus is weakest to, then rotate. Once the second phase ends, Emma absorbs the Taurus’s Blight and wakes up back aboard the Bauera.
Ending Chapter 8
Back inside the vehicle, Brad, Kagura, and Emma have a conversation that sets up the next stretch of the story. When you’re ready, choose to depart the Crater Zone. Selecting to leave finishes Worm Food and moves you into Chapter 9, Branching Out, in the Inukami River Zone.
Note: Everything in the Crater Zone stays reachable through fast travel, so if you skipped the Withered Beast or the elite fights flagged by the Keeper Golem, you can return later to mop them up without blocking your progress.
