Mutations act as modifiers on your nuclear missiles in Merge a Nuke. Each one attaches a mix of buffs and debuffs, so a single mutation might raise Cash generation, Health, or damage while cutting another stat or lengthening cooldown. Because the trade-offs are baked in, picking the right mutation matters as much as reaching a higher nuke tier.
Quick answer: Complete Rebirth 3 to start spawning mutated nukes at Common, Rare, and Epic rarity. Rebirth 5 unlocks Legendary mutations, and Rebirth 10 unlocks the Admiral rarity plus a second mutation slot.

Rebirth requirements to unlock mutations
The whole mutation system is tied to Rebirths. Each Rebirth asks for a set amount of Cash and a specific Tier before it triggers, and each one you complete opens more of the mutation pool. Keep Rebirthing to reach the higher-rarity mutations and stronger money multipliers.
| Rebirth milestone | What it unlocks |
|---|---|
| Rebirth 3 | Common, Rare, and Epic mutations begin spawning on nukes |
| Rebirth 5 | Legendary mutations |
| Rebirth 10 | Admiral-rarity mutation and a second mutation slot |
Once you clear Rebirth 3, every nuke that spawns has a random chance to carry a mutation. If you want to farm one, keep deleting the missiles on your base until a mutated nuke appears.

There are 16 mutations in total. The in-game index lists 15 of them, and the 16th is the Magma mutation, which does not appear in the index and comes from a developer-triggered event. Several entries are still marked as TBA in the index and will fill in as more are discovered.

| Accelerated Fuel | Common | 35% shorter launch cooldown, deals 25% less damage |

| Enriched Core | Common | Earns 40% more Cash, 25% less Health |
| Reformed Plating | Common | 50% more Health, earns 25% less Cash |

The remaining index slots (one Common, one Rare, and two Epic) are still listed as TBA and will be added once their names and effects are confirmed.
How merging passes mutations to a new nuke
Random spawns are only half of the system. Merging is the other route, and it lets you carry mutations forward onto stronger missiles.
Note: Legendary mutations have a 10% chance to spawn as Stabilized. A Stabilized mutation applies its buffs without the usual debuff, which removes the downside on that missile.

Getting the Magma mutation from the Volcano Event
Magma is the one mutation that ignores Rebirth level entirely. It is applied during the Volcano Event, which only appears when the developers trigger an Admin Abuse. Because it is not gated behind Rebirths, beginners and veterans can both obtain it.
While the event is active, a large volcano sits in the center of the map. Hit its weak points to deal damage. Every 15 hits on those weak points, the volcano spits lava at the player with the most successful hits, and that lava has a chance to apply the Magma mutation to their nukes. If the Lava Merge portion of the event is running, you can also pick up the mutation by merging nukes.
Magma gives 50% more Cash and extra damage, and the spot where the nuke lands catches fire. The flames are visual and do not add extra damage.
Best mutations to aim for
Apex Core and Magma stand out because they raise power without a meaningful drawback. Apex Core adds 150% more Cash and 100% more damage with no listed penalty, while Magma boosts Cash and damage and only adds a cosmetic fire on impact. Overclocked Reactor is the strongest all-around Legendary option, doubling Cash and adding 75% more damage, though it pays for that with 40% less Health and a 35% longer cooldown.
You will know a mutation applied when the nuke displays it as a modifier on your base. Keep Rebirthing to reach the Admiral gate at Rebirth 10, since Apex Core only starts rolling on spawns once that requirement is met, and it appears with a small chance even then.
