Every island where howler monkeys spawn, plus how Bones let you buy skins straight from the shop.

Howler Monkey Skin is a land wildlife product in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, and it feeds directly into one of Edward’s most useful gear upgrades. You get it by hunting howler monkeys in the wild or by spending Bones at a General Store, and the same loop supplies the rarer Red Howler Monkey Skin needed for the higher-tier upgrade.

Quick answer: Hunt howler monkeys at Cape Bonavista, Tulum, Kingston, or Cat Island to collect Howler Monkey Skin, or buy it for 3 Bones at any General Store. Red Howler Monkey Skin comes from Isla Providencia or costs 4 Bones once your Great Inagua General Store is fully upgraded.

Howler Monkey hunting locations

Howler monkeys roam several coastal islands, and killing one drops Howler Monkey Skin every time. Head to any of the spots below and skin the animal after the kill to collect the material.

Tip: Equip the Exotic Sea Shells trinket before you start skinning. It doubles the amount of animal product you receive from each kill, which cuts your hunting time in half.

Where to find Red Howler Monkey Skin

Red Howler Monkeys live only on Isla Providencia, an island southeast of the Serranilla region near the southern edge of the map. The island stays locked until you finish the 31st main mission, Marooned, so you cannot hunt them earlier than that point.

Once Isla Providencia opens up, land there and track the monkey with your navigation tools. As with regular howlers, the Exotic Sea Shells trinket doubles the skins you pull from each animal.

Track monkeys with Pathfinder and Eagle Vision

Open your map and mark the Red Howler Monkey icon (the same method works for standard howler monkeys). This sets your target before you start moving.
Activate Pathfinder by holding Z on PC or Up on the D-pad on PS5 and Xbox. A line appears on the ground that leads straight to the animal’s location.
Tag the monkey with Eagle Vision as you close in. The animal turns red and stays highlighted, so it is far easier to spot in dense terrain before you make the kill.

Buy skins with Bones at the General Store

If you would rather skip the hunt, both skins are stocked at the General Store and paid for with Bones instead of Reales. Bones are earned mainly by hunting animals, which keeps the whole system tied to your kills.

You can also buy Bones from the Treasure Dealer, but the Reales cost is steep. It is far more efficient to hunt animals directly and stockpile Bones, then trade them for the skins you need or put them toward the Deceased Crew Attire ship vanity.

What Howler Monkey Skin is used for

Both skins go into the Dart Pouch upgrade, which raises how many darts Edward can carry. The pouch starts at 5 capacity and gains +3 per level, so upgrading it lets you fire blowpipe darts more often between refills.

Any leftover skins are not wasted. Sell extra Howler Monkey Skin or Red Howler Monkey Skin at the nearest General Store for Reales once you have finished the upgrade, and pair the sale with the Exotic Sea Shells trinket to squeeze more product out of every animal you hunt.
