Essence Extraction is the single skill that collects every raw material in Aion 2, from ore and gems to logs, herbs, cooking ingredients, and the floating orbs of Odyle. It levels on its own track, separate from your character level, and feeds crafting, potions, food, and the player market. The trick is that pulling a material out of a node is a short mini-game you can win or lose, and your early success rate is low until you spend points.
Quick answer: Fill the blue Success gauge before the orange Failure gauge to extract a material, never cancel an attempt, and reach Novice 50 to unlock the Splendent Ruby test that promotes you to Professional.
How the extraction mini-game works
Walk up to any node, a plant, an ore vein, or a glowing Odyle orb, and press the Gather prompt to begin extracting. The attempt plays out as a series of turns between two gauges. The blue Success gauge sits on top, the orange Failure gauge on the bottom. Whichever fills first decides the result. Fill Success and you collect the material; fill Failure and the attempt is wasted. Either way you earn Essence Extraction proficiency EXP, so a miss is never dead time.

Each node holds up to three attempts, shown as charges. Nodes are shared, so another player can gather from the same vein while you work it, and each successful or failed pull consumes one charge. Once all charges are spent, the game tells you there is no essence left and the node despawns for a while. Empyreal Trace Feathers are the exception to the three-charge rule.
Never manually cancel a bad-looking attempt. Interrupting it still consumes the charge, and you lose the EXP a finished attempt would have paid out. Let every roll run to the end.
Gathering unlocks early. It becomes available once you clear the All Geared Up quest and leave your first base, around character level 10. From then on, the most efficient habit is to extract everything you pass on your quest route rather than making dedicated farming trips.

Add to Google Preferences →Gathering Odyle in the air
Odyle is extracted while flying. Fly up to a floating orb and stay airborne through the whole attempt. The settings menu includes an “Auto-Flight (Odyle Extraction)” option so you do not drop out of the sky mid-pull, and the Odyle Seeker skill marks orbs on your compass and minimap.

Odyle converts into every other material through Substance Morph at one Odyle per material of the same grade, so gathering it as you travel rarely goes to waste.
The six material types and their grades
Extraction pulls from six material families, each with its own nodes and its own Specialty skill branch. Ore, gems, logs, and Odyle come in four grades (Standard, Fine, Pure, and Radiant), herbs come in a regular and a Fresh grade, and cooking ingredients in one. Higher grades feed advanced crafting chains and sell for more, while Radiant materials go into high-end items such as wings.
| Type | Example materials | Main use |
|---|---|---|
| Ore | Orichalcum | Weapons and armor |
| Gem | Sapphire, Diamond, Ruby | Accessories, soulstones |
| Log | Asvata, Yggdrasil | Bows, staves, scroll paper |
| Herb | Azpha, Aria, Targena, Calendula | Potions and serums |
| Cooking Ingredient | Raydam, Coriolus, Kukuru | Food buffs |
| Odyle | Crafting and Substance Morph |
Every material type needs only gathering mastery 1 to collect, and each gather yields one unit. Nodes can also hand you a bonus item, most commonly a Poko’s Skin Bundle (Bound); Yggdrasil Log nodes can additionally drop a Seed of Detection. Orichalcum veins carry Novice, Advanced, Expert, and Professional node grades, while Odyle and Sapphire nodes stay at Novice grade.
Where to gather in Verteron and Altgard
Elyos farm Verteron and Asmodians farm Altgard, and both regions are dense with nodes. Odyle and Orichalcum are far and away the most common spawns in each, which makes them the backbone of any farming route. Here is how the shared materials break down by spawn count.
| Material | Verteron spots | Altgard spots |
|---|---|---|
| 706 | 650 | |
| Orichalcum | 546 | 530 |
| Ruby | 196 | 190 |
| Diamond | 192 | 200 |
| Sapphire | 192 | 200 |
Each region also carries its own herbs, logs, and cooking ingredients. Verteron adds Aria (156), Yggdrasil (125), Targena (120), Cypri (108), Coriolus (101), Inina (100), Mela (96), and Kukuru (95). Altgard adds Asvata (158), Azpha (150), Ohkra (114), Calendula (108), Pujery (105), Morfa (98), Raydam (96), and Conide (93).
Common skills: the three gauge boosts
Common skills improve every extraction regardless of material, and you buy them with Common Skill Points. Each runs to level 10, but levels 6 through 10 require the Professional grade, so a Novice caps each one at level 5.
| Skill | Effect | Novice max (Lv 5) | Professional max (Lv 10) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Proficient Handling | Raises Success per good turn | +25 | +50 |
| Delicate Touch | Cuts Failure per bad turn | -40 | -80 |
| Lady Luck | Spikes Success when Failure is 50%+ | 24% (×2.5) | 40% (×2.5 or ×4) |

Proficient Handling is the cleanest way to raise your raw success rate, since it widens how fast the blue gauge grows. Delicate Touch steadies tricky nodes by slowing the orange gauge. Lady Luck only triggers once you are already in danger, so it pays off after the other two are solid. Maxing a single Common skill to level 10 costs 40 points.
Specialty skills: Seeker, Plentiful Harvest, and Appraiser
Every material type has its own three-skill branch bought with Specialty Skill Points. The nodes unlock in order, and level 1 of each is available as a Novice while levels 2 and 3 need Professional.
| Skill | Levels | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Seeker | 1 | Shows that material’s nodes on your minimap |
| Plentiful Harvest | 3 | 10% / 20% / 30% chance to double a successful yield |
| Appraiser | 3 | 10% / 20% / 30% chance to reroll the grade upward |
Appraiser is a double roll. The listed chance decides whether a grade reroll happens, then a second roll decides how high it lands, so jumps to Epic or Legendary stay rare. The cooking-ingredient version rerolls quantity instead of grade. Maxing one full material branch costs 7 points.
How to spend your skill points
Across Novice and Professional you earn 95 Common Skill Points and 14 Specialty Skill Points. You gain one Common point per proficiency level and one Specialty point every tenth level. That is not enough for everything: maxing all three Common skills would cost 120 points, and maxing every material branch would cost 42 Specialty points, so the specialty pool covers roughly two material types in full. A reset costs 50,000 Kina.
A reliable plan as a Novice is to put all 45 of your Common points evenly into the three skills up to their level 5 cap, then spend your first Specialty points on Odyle Seeker followed by the Seeker for whatever you farm most. After promotion, a popular split is 10 Proficient Handling, 10 Delicate Touch, and 5 Lady Luck, with the rest of your specialty points poured into Odyle and one other branch. Because Odyle morphs into any material, maxing its branch is rarely wasted.
Finding material sources from the menus
When you need a specific material, you do not have to search blindly. Select any item recipe in the Crafting menu, or inspect a raw material directly in your inventory, and open its Source listing. The game then shows the duty quests, mobs, and map zones that provide it, and drawing a target search ring on the world map so you can plot a route.

Crafting stations also pull required materials straight from account-wide Server Storage. You do not need to withdraw crafting materials into your character inventory for a recipe to recognize them.
Reaching Professional with the Splendent Ruby test
At Novice level 50 the proficiency bar shows “Max” and you stop earning points. To continue, you complete the [Upgrade] Essence Extraction Specialty Skill quest, which carries a recommended character level of 45 but accepts automatically once you hit the cap.

Ruby nodes sit in specific areas for each faction.
| Faction | Ruby node areas |
|---|---|
| Elyos (Verteron) | Verteron Fortress Ruins, Destroyed Abyss Gate, Ellun River Midstream, Kraka Footpath |
| Asmodian (Altgard) | Calderon Canyon, Dredgion Crash Site, Silent Hill, Nameless Cemetery, Tranein Highland |
Do not confuse the Splendent Ruby with the Radiant Ruby Gemstone. The latter is a high-grade Jewelcrafting material made under Substance Morph from Radiant Odyle and does not count toward the quest.
How to confirm the promotion worked
Hand the ruby to Korius or Alzirr and you receive Essence Extraction Upgrade: Professional x1 and Artwork: Artisan Essence Extractor (Bound) x1. There is nothing to activate manually; your rank reads Professional immediately. The proficiency bar then opens past level 50, Common skills can climb to level 10, and Specialty skills can reach levels 2 and 3. Becoming a Professional Essence Extractor also grants the Professional Extractor title, which adds Critical Hit 5 and, while equipped, 1.4% Flight Speed.
Some players find their allocated points reset on promotion, so plan to re-spend them once you are Professional. From there, keep extracting along your route, mark the materials you want with Seeker, and the points to push both grades to level 50 accumulate on their own.
