All 10 Fisch Companions and How to Unlock Each One

All 10 Fisch Companions and How to Unlock Each One

Companions in Fisch are equippable pets that add passive perks to your fishing setup, from reel assists to luck buffs. The Companions update brings ten of them, and each one has its own location, bait, rod, or event requirement. Some drop after a single quest, others depend on rare RNG spawns or specific weather and time-of-day conditions.

🎣
Quick answer: You can equip one companion at a time. Each one levels up to 10 by fishing while it's equipped, which scales its passive buff.

Before chasing the rarer ones, redeem the code Companions under Menu → Other → Codes for 10 Krill, which is the bait you'll need for the Penguin Pal. The full lineup, with the shortest path to each, is below.

Nico Cat — Underground Music Venue

The easiest companion to grab. Head to the Underground Music Venue and complete the Crazy Cat Lady (Old Cat Lady) quest line through at least Part 2, the same questline that rewards Nico's Yarncaster rod. If you already finished that quest before the update dropped, Nico is granted automatically the next time you log in.

Tropical Toucan — Lost Jungle

Travel to the Lost Jungle and climb to the upper mountain area near GPS coordinates -2924, 275, -2149. The Toucan sits on a tree root and accepts bait offerings from the Lost Jungle pool, including Centipede, Snail, and Stag Beetle. The exact bait it wants is randomized per player, so keep gifting Lost Jungle bugs until it accepts. A wrong offering produces the message that the Toucan snatched your bait and flapped away.

Gary Gator — Mushgrove Swamp

Go to the Alligator Marsh inside Mushgrove Swamp at roughly 2653, 132, -751. The gator spawns more reliably during fog or at sunrise, so a Smokescreen Totem or Sundial Totem helps. Once you spot it swimming, equip Fish Head bait on a slow-lure rod (Anchor n' Chain works) and cast near it. Let the line sit, and the companion is granted automatically when the gator bites.

Silly Seal — Northern Expedition

Head to Northern Summit Island within the Northern Expedition area and look for seals on the broken ice plates outside the main POI. Walk up slowly so it doesn't bolt, then gift it a fish above Legendary rarity. The accepted fish is randomized (Bluefin Tuna and Sawfish have both worked). If a seal flees, wait a few minutes and try another seal with a different fish.

Penguin Pal — Snowcap Island

Buy Krill bait from the Merchant room above the Shipwright NPC on Snowcap Island, then head to the Snowburrow secret POI at 2865, 141, 2557. Place down Reinforced Crab Cages (or better) loaded with Krill. The penguin is an RNG drop from the cages, so set out as many as you can and check back. Foggy weather appears to increase the chance of a penguin surfacing.

Plunderbeak — Forsaken Shores

Three hard prerequisites must all be met before this one will trigger:

  • Own and equip the Scurvy Rod.
  • Have completed the Forsaken Shores bestiary.
  • Have opened at least 10 treasure chests on your account (lifetime total).

With all three checked off, stand on Forsaken Island near -2629, 161, 1643 with the Scurvy Rod equipped. After roughly 30 to 60 seconds, a parrot flies down to you, and Plunderbeak unlocks. If nothing happens, one of the three conditions is missing.

Beak Bill — Any wooden dock

The pelican is a rare nighttime spawn that can appear on the dock of almost any major POI, including Moosewood, Roslit Bay, Sunstone Island, Forsaken Shores, and Castaway. A Tempest Totem (rain) seems to help it spawn. Once you spot it, feed it any fish above Legendary rarity to befriend it. A Blessed Sawfish is a reliable offering.

Flopping Salmon — The Ocean

Pure RNG. Take a boat into the open ocean and fish normally. Each Salmon you reel in has roughly a 10% chance to come bundled with the Flopping Salmon companion. Popping a Tempest Totem to fish in the rain reportedly raises the odds.

Little Meg — Megalodon Hunt event

Wait for the Megalodon Hunt to start naturally, or trigger it with a Megalodon Hunt Totem. Equip a Fish Radar and look underwater for a small, blue, glowing baby Meg circling the adult Megalodon. If the baby is present during the hunt, you must land a Perfect Catch on the adult Megalodon to receive Little Meg. No baby visible means it won't drop that run.

Mutated Sharky — The Depths (Vertigo)

The hardest of the ten. You need a Total Darkness event active inside The Depths, which can be forced using the Oniri Falx (O'neiri Falx) rod or other disturbance methods. On the ocean floor, look for a green-glowing fish swimming around.

Step 1: Equip a rod with very low lure speed, such as the Anchor n' Chain, and load Fish Head bait.

Step 2: Cast near the green fish without getting too close to it. If you swim into it, it bolts, and you have to relocate it.

Step 3: Wait for the fish to drift onto your line, then hold E to interact and reel it in. The unlock prompt appears once it's caught.

A duo setup works well here, with one player using a slow-lure rod to anchor the lure while the other stays back.

Leveling and equipping

Only one companion can be equipped at a time. Each one starts at level 1 and caps at level 10, gaining stronger versions of its passive (reel assists, luck modifiers, catch effects) as it levels. XP is earned passively while you fish with it active, so the fastest way to max a companion is to keep it equipped during your normal grind rather than swapping per biome.

The RNG-heavy unlocks (Flopping Salmon, Penguin Pal, Little Meg) are the most likely to stall a 10/10 collection run, so it's worth keeping a Tempest Totem and a stack of Reinforced Crab Cages on hand whenever you're out farming the deterministic ones.
