Mountain Jawling does not roam the open fields with the rest of the Russet Highlands wildlife. It sits locked in a cage inside a small sealed ruin, behind a pile of leaves, a wall of vines, and a symbol puzzle. Nothing about it is random, so once you know the route, the catch takes about two minutes.

Quick answer: Destroy the leaf pile on the ruins platform in Russet Highlands, drop in, burn the vines with a Fire skill, align the purple wall symbol to open the gate, then catch the caged Jawling with an Anipod Pro.

Where Mountain Jawling is located in Russet Highlands

Russet Highlands sits in the Breezy Plains region, and the ordinary Jawling line spawns there at levels 45 to 50. The Mountain Form is the exception. It only exists inside the underground ruin, so no amount of patrolling the surface will produce one.

Open the world map before you set off and head for the stone ruin structure in the highlands. The landmark you want is a raised stone platform with a metal grate set into the floor, with a large mound of dry leaves sitting next to it. That grate is the ceiling of the cage you are trying to reach.

What you need before entering the ruins

The ruin has two hard gates, and each one is solved by a specific kind of Aniimo rather than by damage. Bring all of this before you drop in, or you will be climbing back out to swap your team.

  • A Fire-element Aniimo with an offensive Fire skill, used to burn the vine wall.
  • The small dark dragon-type Aniimo whose mobility skill aligns the wall symbol.
  • At least one Anipod Pro, since the target is Level 49.
  • A team in the level 45 to 50 range to match the area.

Spare Anipods are scattered on the floor inside the sealed room, so you can top up right before the throw if you arrive short.

How to open the sealed ruins

Travel to the stone ruin platform in Russet Highlands and stand next to the metal grate. Look for the heap of dry leaves beside it rather than trying to interact with the grate itself.

Hit the leaf pile with any attack to clear it. The leaves break apart and reveal a hole in the stone floor. Drop through it to land in the underground ruin.
Inside, a doorway is blocked by a thick wall of vines. Twine with your Fire Aniimo and use its Fire skill on the vines to burn them away. The prompt to ignite appears when you are close enough and lined up with the wall.

Past the vines, a purple symbol is projected onto the wall and a metal gate blocks the cage. Open your Aniimo menu, switch to the small dark dragon-type Aniimo, and use its alignment mobility skill to line the symbol up. The gate unlocks the moment the symbol snaps into place.

Return to human form and walk through the open gate. Collect the loose Anipods on the floor and open the purple chest in the room before you do anything else, since you will be leaving as soon as the catch lands.

Catching Mountain Jawling and confirming it worked

The Jawling is sitting in the cage at Level 49 and does not run. Throw an Anipod Pro directly at it from inside the room. There is no fight to soften it up first, which is why the higher-grade capture item matters more here than your damage output.

A successful throw registers Jawling (Mountain Form) in your Aniilog and posts the line “Jawling Special Form collection progress increased. Collaboration Ability Level +1!” on screen. If you see the standard capture message without that special form line, you caught an ordinary Jawling somewhere else on the surface, not this one.

Open the Aniimo menu afterwards and summon it to check. The Mountain Form has the metallic jaw described in its Aniilog entry, which is the fastest visual confirmation that the right variant is in your collection.

Mountain Jawling stats, trait, and skills

Mountain Jawling is a Lumin stage, Wind element Aniimo in the Break role, listed in the Aniilog as No. 64B. Its Aniilog entry notes that it sharpens its teeth on Metal ores, and that the Metal it swallows toughens its skin until the jaw turns fully metallic.

Its trait is Counter Strike, which raises BREAK efficiency by 25% for 10 seconds after it is attacked. Its mobility skill is Bilateral, which switches to a different viewing perspective, and its homeland abilities are Carry Lv. 1 and Wind Lv. 1.

Wind Tackle pushes small targets and adds 15% damage reduction to Mountain Jawling for 10 seconds, so it pairs naturally with Counter Strike when you want it soaking hits to build break pressure. Overcharged Claw Strike is the straight damage option. Its innate ATK is a close-range Wind attack tagged for BREAK.

How to evolve Mountain Jawling

The Mountain line evolves along its own branch and keeps the Wind element and Break role the whole way. Because you catch it at Level 49, the first evolution is already available the moment it joins your team.

  • Mountain Jawling to Mountain Helmwhelp at Lv. 38.
  • Mountain Helmwhelp to Mountain Helgon at Lv. 48.
  • The Mountain Helgon step must first be unlocked by opening 30 chests in the world cumulatively.
  • The final evolution consumes Gust Stone.

That chest requirement is worth starting early, since it tracks across the whole world rather than Russet Highlands alone, and the purple chest in the cage room counts toward it. Clear the ruin once, bank the catch, and the rest of the line is just levelling.
