Fishing in Anime Expeditions is a simple minigame layered on top of the tower-defense loop. You equip a rod, cast into any water body, and align a moving bar with a fish icon to reel it in. Each successful catch feeds two progress tracks that hand out gems, rerolls, and event units, so it is worth working into your normal play.
Quick answer: Tap the fishing rod icon at the bottom left to equip it, stand next to or drop into a pool, press and hold the left mouse button to cast, then hold and align the blue bar with the fish until the white meter fills and your avatar reels it in.

How to cast and catch a fish
Fishing works in the lobby and on game mode maps wherever there is water. The controls are handled entirely by the left mouse button, both for casting and for the alignment minigame.

Note: On game mode maps you cannot fish before the level starts. You must press the Start button and let the waves begin before casting a line.

Higher-tier fish move faster and make the alignment minigame harder, so better rods matter as you progress. Each rod carries three stats. Lure Speed governs how quickly the meter fills, Control affects how the bar responds, and Control Zone sets how forgiving the alignment window is. There are five rods in total.
| Rod | Stats | Passive | How to get |
|---|---|---|---|
| Normal Rod | Lure Speed 6, 12; Control 0.5; Control Zone 0.3 | None | Available at start |
| Auto Rod | Lure Speed 12, 24; Control 0.7; Control Zone 0 | Skips the minigame and completes it automatically for faster lures | Reach wave 150 in Tidal Siege |
| Advanced Rod | Lure Speed 5, 10; Control 0.5; Control Zone 0.3 | None | Buy from the Summer Shop |
| Lucky Rod | Lure Speed 6, 12; Control 0.7; Control Zone 0.35 | Every 8th fish caught is a guaranteed Mythic | 1% chance to be awarded after catching a fish |
| Recycling Rod | Lure Speed 6, 12; Control 0.9; Control Zone 0.4 | Every 10 items sold recycle into a random Legendary+ item | Fish 100 times |
The Auto Rod is the strongest all-round pick. It clears the minigame for you and carries the best stat spread, which makes long fishing sessions far less hands-on. The Lucky Rod is worth chasing if you want a steady stream of Mythics, and the Recycling Rod pays off once you are selling large batches of catches.

Where the fish are
There are 22 unique fish spread across the lobby and the game mode maps. Each location holds its own set, so completing the index means fishing in every area.

Fishing Event Ranks and currency bonuses
Fishing EXP feeds a separate track called Fishing Event Ranks. Reaching each threshold raises your currency gain and, at higher ranks, adds bonus event currency when you clear non-event game modes. There are six ranks.
| Rank | Benefit |
|---|---|
| Beginner | No bonus |
| Novice | +20% currency gain |
| Experienced | +40% currency gain |
| Veteran | +60% currency gain; +250 event currency per non-event clear (up to 5,000) |
| Master | +80% currency gain; +250 event currency per non-event clear (up to 7,500) |
| Grandmaster | +100% currency gain; +250 event currency per non-event clear (up to 10,000) |
If your cast will not register
The most common reason fishing does nothing is standing on land at the edge of a pool. Drop into the water and cast from inside it to force the minigame to appear. On game mode maps, remember that the line only works after the first wave begins, so press Start before trying to fish.
The Sand Dollars you earn from fishing double as the main event currency, so steady casting also helps you clear the Summer Siege shops faster. Between the Milestone rewards, the rank bonuses, and rare Mythic catches, keeping a rod in the water pays off across the whole event.
