Anime Expeditions Update 2.5: Best Units and What Their Passives Do

A role-by-role look at Endless Hellflame's best units, from Benimaru and Devil to the carryover Secrets still worth building.

A role-by-role look at Endless Hellflame’s best units, from Benimaru and Devil to the carryover Secrets still worth building.

Update 3.0, titled Endless Hellflame, brings a strong Fire Force influence to Anime Expeditions. It reshapes the upper meta while leaving room for the carries players have already invested in. The official rankings group top units by what they do best: Top 5 picks, then DPS dealers, Utility units, Support, and Crowd-Control. Choose for a unit’s role instead of pursuing rarity alone.

Quick answer: The strongest Update 3.0 units are the official Top 5 — Benimaru, Shinra, Fifth Godhand, Sho, and Sinbad. Add Devil (Hero) for burst damage and Fallen Angel (Holy) for crowd control.

Placements here weigh how much a unit does on its own, how well it fits common team roles, and how it holds up in longer, competitive modes. These rankings reflect the Update 3.0 Endless Hellflame patch that is currently live.

What Endless Hellflame added

Update 3 dropped six new units into the roster: Crimson Captain (Moon), Water Sage (Founder), Devil (Hero), Fallen Angel (Holy), Wild Card (Ace), and Ignition Commander (Betrayal). Alongside the units, the patch introduced new activities including Devil’s Request, Infernal Hunt, Boss Rush, a new Portal, and a Mastery Stage.

The content drop also included six new pieces of equipment — among them Angel Blade, Pride, Fire Helmet, and Torn Page — plus four skins, one emote, and one accessory. The in-game Update Log lists all of it in one window.

The official Update 3.0 Top 5

UnitRoleMain job
Benimaru (Crimson Captain / Moon)Full AoE DPSMapwide brooms, team buff
ShinraSingle-target DPSFire marking
Fifth GodhandDPS / ControlDistortion scaling
ShoCrowd controlTime stop and stall
Sinbad (Sovereign / Djinn)Boss killerChains, freeze, slow

Benimaru, listed as Crimson Captain (Moon), is one of the standout additions. He works as an elite full-AoE damage dealer and spawns Brooms that cover the whole map, which gives him strong leak control. His Scorched Earth passive buffs every DPS unit on the field, and his ignite effects pair well with burn-based carries like Crow (Black Fire) and Head Captain (Fire).

Sinbad, the Sovereign (Djinn) Secret, is still the game’s most well-rounded boss killer. At maximum upgrades, one placement deals 3,164 Damage, has a 4.0 SPA, and reaches 27.43 Range; before passives, that comes to about 791 DPS per copy. Lightning Djinn adds five chains to each attack, while Nine-Tailed Fox Djinn boosts damage whenever a boss is in range. Djinn’s Judgment repeatedly Freezes targets and leaves them with a permanent 15% Slow. His full placement price is just ¥43,200, a low cost for that level of output, which is why he’s often considered the best-value carry by damage per cost.

Fifth Godhand, the 5th God Hand Secret, opens at 682 Damage, 6.5 SPA, and 14.5 Range and scales sharply. Every third attack drops a Distortion that removes enemies from the map for two seconds while dealing damage, and his Fated Meter — capped at 35 stacks — steadily raises his output. He needs cash and time to ramp, so keep upgrading him through a run rather than parking him early. Sho anchors the stall side of the Top 5 with time-stop effects, while Shinra covers reliable single-target pressure through his fire-marking attacks.

Best new units by role

Devil (Hero) — highest burst DPS

Devil (Hero) posts the highest burst damage of the update. On its own it reaches very high numbers and can out-damage other top-tier DPS units in many situations. It also pairs strongly with Benimaru, forming one of the update’s best offensive combinations. Its one real drawback is a relatively short attack range, so placement matters more than usual.

Fallen Angel (Holy) — premier crowd control

Fallen Angel (Holy) excels at stopping time and ranks among the game’s strongest crowd-control units. With excellent staying power and a place in nearly any team composition, it is a dependable choice for stalling a difficult wave.

Water Sage (Founder) — situational burst

Water Sage (Founder) is a strong burst DPS unit, but its value swings heavily with the scenario. It needs the right conditions to reach its full ceiling, so treat it as a specialist pick rather than a default carry.

Wild Card (Ace) underdelivers. Despite what its passive suggests, it does not contribute much support even inside a dedicated Fire team, which lands it well below the other new arrivals. Ignition Commander (Betrayal) rounds out the six additions and appears in the Standard Banner rotation.

If you are deciding where to spend limited upgrade materials, prioritize Benimaru, Devil, and Fallen Angel over Wild Card and situational picks like Water Sage.

Carryover meta units still worth building

Endless Hellflame did not replace the previous meta. Several units that rose during the earlier Absolute Dream patch remain core to strong teams, especially as DPS and support.

UnitTypeMain job
8th Sword (Berserk)Neutral PhysicalHighest raw AoE damage
Lightning God (Overcharged)Storm MagicalScaling AoE, stuns
Shadow (Divine)Dark MagicalSummoner DPS, magic buff
Head Captain (Char)Flame PhysicalInfinite burn stacking
Iron Wolf (Struggler)Dark PhysicalBleed, ground pools
Silver FalconLight MagicalTeam damage buff
KitsuneFlame MagicalAttack speed and SPA buff

8th Sword (Berserk) has the game’s greatest raw damage as a full-AoE unit, clears stuns from itself, and cuts enemy movement speed by 15% permanently. Activating Berserk Mode boosts its damage, range, and attack speed. Lightning God (Overcharged) tops the pure-AoE options, building electricity damage through its Voltage Meter as it sends lane-wide strikes that stun.

Shadow (Divine) covers damage and utility in one slot, with independent Wing and Wolf summons and a Shadow Realm that rewinds enemies while granting every Magical unit a 25% damage boost. On the burn and bleed side, Head Captain (Char) stacks Burn with no cap toward a 150% damage increase, and Iron Wolf (Struggler) leaves Crimson Spills that merge and grow the longer a run goes.

For support, Silver Falcon raises base damage by 10% plus 1% per upgrade and boosts both Physical and Magical archetypes, making it a flat upgrade to almost any lineup. Kitsune targets your strongest unit in range, cutting its SPA by 25% and raising its attack speed by 25%, then hands the whole range a 35% damage buff on her ultimate. If a mode allows an economy slot, Ramen Guy increases Yen from defeated enemies by 50%, which funds full upgrades on expensive Secrets before late waves.

Best traits for your carries

Traits have a greater effect on unit power than equipment, and one trait stands well above the others. Choose Unbound for a main damage dealer that performs with a single placement; carries that need multiple placements should use Primordial instead.

TraitEffectUse it on
Unbound+350% DMG, -5% SPA, +10% Range (single placement)Main single-placement carry
Primordial+35% DMG, -15% SPA, +20% RangeMulti-placement DPS
Forsaken+35% Crit Damage, +35% Crit Chance, +10% RangeCrit-scaling units
Draconic+20% DMG, +50% DoT Damage, -10% CostBurn and bleed units
Investor+25% Money Farm IncomeFarm units

Because Unbound locks a unit to one placement, it is wasted on units that want three copies on the map. Fifth Godhand is already capped at one placement, which makes it a natural home for Unbound, while Sinbad benefits from running multiple copies and leans toward Primordial.

Where the new units come from

New units are pulled through the Summon system. The Standard Banner currently rotates three Mythic units — Hollow, Ignition Commander, and Cursed Student — so Ignition Commander (Betrayal) is obtainable there rather than through a special event pull.

Taken together, Endless Hellflame leaves the meta with a clear shape. The official Top 5 forms the backbone, Devil and Fallen Angel plug the burst and control gaps, and the strongest carries from the previous patch still earn their slots. Build a Sinbad or Benimaru core, add a scaling AoE carry, cover buffs with Silver Falcon or Kitsune, and keep a farm unit funding the upgrades, and you have a lineup that clears nearly every stage in the game.
