Anime Vanguards: How the Meliodas Unit Wrath (Assault) Works

Wrath (Assault) is the Exclusive-rarity Meliodas unit in Anime Vanguards, and it is built as a partner piece rather than a standalone damage dealer. Almost everything it does keys off Iscanur (Pride), the Escanor Vanguard, from how much it costs to place to how its stats scale during a run. Understanding that dependency is the difference between a unit that idles at the back of the map and one that deletes boss health bars.

Quick answer: Put Iscanur (Pride) down first, then place Wrath (Assault) for free, upgrade only Escanor, and fire The Power of Friends immediately before Lion’s Sin to land the 4x cinematic combo.

Wrath (Assault) base stats and Iscanur (Pride) comparison

On paper, the Meliodas unit looks weak at level 1, and that is intentional. Its raw numbers are low because it is not meant to be levelled on its own money, and its damage output comes from riding Escanor’s upgrades and the combo multiplier instead.

Wrath (Assault) carries two passives, Phantom of Darkness and Emotions Wiped, plus the active skill The Power of Friends on a 1-second cooldown. Its dedicated Memoria is Lost in Vain, which itself holds the Dancho and Lost in Vain passives.

Free placement and automatic upgrades with Escanor

The pairing rule is simple. If Iscanur (Pride) is already on the field, Wrath (Assault) costs nothing to place. That means you spend your early Yen on Escanor and get the second unit as a bonus, which frees up a slot’s worth of economy on tighter maps.

Upgrades work the same way. You only ever pay to level Iscanur (Pride), and each of those upgrades also raises the Meliodas unit’s stats automatically. There is no separate upgrade path to fund, so the two units effectively share one wallet.

There is a third link between them. Wrath (Assault) counts as permanently Burned, which is exactly the condition Escanor’s own passives look for, so it keeps triggering Iscanur (Pride)’s buffs without any setup on your part. Escanor brings The One Above All, High Noon and Sunshine, with Lion’s Sin on a 1-second cooldown and its Ultimate on a 600-second cooldown.

The Power of Friends combo and the 4x multiplier

The Power of Friends is the reason to run this unit at all. Activating it multiplies the next instance of damage dealt by an Evils unit by 4x, and it targets the enemy with the highest current HP, which points it straight at bosses instead of trash mobs.

Order matters. Use The Power of Friends first, then immediately follow with Escanor’s Lion’s Sin. That specific sequence plays a unique cinematic attack between the two characters and applies the multiplied hit. Both skills sit on 1-second cooldowns, so the rotation can be repeated as fast as you can click through it.

The Evils category is what the multiplier reads from, and it covers the other Seven Deadly Sins characters in the roster, including King, Merlin and Escanor, alongside a handful of outsiders such as Ichigo. If the next damage source is not an Evils unit, the buff is not spent on it.

Meliodas spawning as an enemy every 3 waves

Wrath (Assault) has an unusual quirk. Every 3 waves, a Meliodas enemy spawns on the track. Kill that enemy version three separate times and the unit gains 100% Crit Chance for the remainder of the match, permanently.

Note: the crit bonus is per match, not account-wide, so it resets when the run ends. Clearing those spawns early in a long run is worth prioritising, since the crit rate then applies to every combo hit for the rest of the stage.

Best trait for Wrath (Assault): Monarch

Monarch is the trait to chase here, and it is rolled the usual way through Trait Rerolls in the trait menu. Stat rerolls are handled separately at the Manipulator NPC.

Monarch modifierValue
DMG+300%
SPA-10%
RNG+5%
Placement limit1

The single placement limit is not a real cost on this unit, since Wrath (Assault) is a one-per-field pick in practice anyway. The +300% DMG is what feeds into the 4x combo multiplier, which is where the trait pays for itself.

How to confirm the combo is working

A sandbox match is the fastest way to check your setup before taking it into a real stage. You can set your Yen freely there, place both units, and spawn a boss such as Vogita to watch the numbers land.

Place Iscanur (Pride) on the track first. Its placement is the trigger for everything that follows, so nothing else should go down before it.
Place Wrath (Assault) next to it. The placement cost should read as free, and the two characters play a shared entry cutscene when both land on the field. If you were charged, Escanor is not actually placed.
Upgrade Iscanur (Pride) once and watch the Meliodas unit’s stat panel. Its DMG and DPS values should climb at the same time, with no Yen deducted for a second upgrade.
Activate The Power of Friends, then Lion’s Sin without delay. The cinematic attack plays and a single large damage number appears on the highest-HP enemy. If you see two ordinary hits instead, the skills were used in the wrong order or the window between them was too long.

Run the pair together and the practical takeaway is that Wrath (Assault) is a multiplier attached to Escanor rather than a second carry. Every Yen you spend goes into Iscanur (Pride), the Meliodas unit scales along for free, and the payoff arrives in one burst each time you chain the two skills against a boss.
