Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse has 34 regular enemy types between Paris Streets and the Master’s Quarters. Most of them come back later with more health. The numbers below are the launch values for every regular enemy. Bosses are not included and have their own boss order guide.
Quick answer: There are 34 regular enemy types, and most return later in tougher versions. All of them share one drop table. The toughest Bone-Throwing Skeletons give the most XP for the effort, at 800 XP for 450 health.
A tougher version keeps the same name and has more health. It often gives more XP as well. Beam Skeletons and Frozen Shades are also worth hunting, since every version of each gives 290 XP.
Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse enemy drops
Every regular enemy uses the same drop table, so you never need to hunt a specific enemy for an item. Each kill gives you XP orbs and a mana orb, with a 4% chance each of a meat chunk, mana tea and a health potion:
- XP orbs and a mana orb, every time.
- A 4% chance each of a meat chunk, mana tea and a health potion.
- A meat chunk heals 29% of Rose’s max HP.
- Mana tea fully restores her mana.
Collecting a health potion raises Rose’s stock by one. She can hold 3 more than her usual maximum; once she has that many extra, picking up another potion restores 40% of her max HP.
The Red Skeleton gives no XP in any version. A Mirror of Life brings roaming enemies back, so rooms you have already cleared fill up again.

The Zombie is the only enemy with four versions. Its XP does not rise in a straight line, because its second version gives less XP than its first.

Best enemies to farm for XP
These enemies give the most XP per kill, listed from highest to lowest. The version column shows which version gives that payout. The Areas column lists only the places where that version appears.
| Enemy (version) | XP | Health | Areas |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bone-Throwing Skeleton (strongest) | 800 | 450 | Paris Streets, Holy Innocents’ Cemetery, Clock Tower, Notre-Dame, Hall of Mirrors |
| Minotaur (weakest) | 740 | 1,000 | Paris Streets, Main Hall, Master’s Quarters |
| Flying Armor (only version) | 740 | 1,700 | Holy Innocents’ Cemetery, Hall of Mirrors |
| Minotaur (stronger) | 740 | 1,700 | Notre-Dame, Hall of Mirrors |
| Boomerang Skeleton (strongest) | 630 | 450 | Paris Streets, Notre-Dame, Hall of Mirrors |
| Golem (weakest) | 580 | 2,000 | Clock Tower, Notre-Dame, Master’s Quarters |
| Golem (stronger) | 580 | 3,000 | Notre-Dame, Hall of Mirrors |
| Axe Armor (strongest) | 500 | 1,200 | Clock Tower, Notre-Dame, Hall of Mirrors |
| Shield Armor (strongest) | 500 | 2,000 | Clock Tower, Notre-Dame, Hall of Mirrors |
| Bone-Throwing Skeleton (stronger) | 480 | 240 | Paris Streets, Clock Tower, Hall of Mirrors |
Bone-Throwing Skeleton has the best return on this list. Both of its top two versions give far more XP than their health would suggest. The Minotaur’s weaker version gives the same XP as Flying Armor with less health to chew through. The Golem pays the same at both versions, so the extra health on the stronger one gets you nothing. Toughest regular enemies in Belmont’s Curse
These are the regular enemies with the most health, ranked by their toughest version.
- Golem has 3,000 health in Notre-Dame and Hall of Mirrors.
- Ruler Sword has 2,000 health in Holy Innocents’ Cemetery, Notre-Dame, Hall of Mirrors and Master’s Quarters.
- Shield Armor has 2,000 health in Clock Tower, Notre-Dame and Hall of Mirrors.
- Flying Armor has 1,700 health in Holy Innocents’ Cemetery and Hall of Mirrors.
- Minotaur has 1,700 health in Notre-Dame and Hall of Mirrors.
- Axe Armor has 1,200 health in Clock Tower, Notre-Dame and Hall of Mirrors.
- Biphron has 1,200 health in Paris Streets, Holy Innocents’ Cemetery and Catacombs of Paris.
- Werewolf has 1,200 health in Paris Streets, Main Hall, Clock Tower, Notre-Dame and Hall of Mirrors.
Several of these are poor value for their health. The toughest Biphron gives only 80 XP for 1,200 health. Ruler Sword gives the same 440 XP whether it has 800 health or 2,000. When you can, go around these and save your time for the skeletons.
