Flickering Starlight is the two-mission faction quest line for the Blackwater Oil Merchant Guild in Crimson Desert. It is centered on the logging settlement of Timberton in the Delesyia region, where the local power supply has been cut off by hostile forces occupying Marni's Drilling Rig. Completing both missions restores the town, opens up new merchant inventory, and resolves the only quest line associated with this guild.
Quick answer: Speak to the chief of Timberton, clear Marni's Drilling Rig, reactivate it, then return to the chief to finish Light Restored to Tinkerton. The Provisioner's Shop and timber merchant become fully active once the rig is back online.

Flickering Starlight quest structure
The faction line contains exactly two missions played in order. The in-game text frequently spells the town as "Tinkerton" due to a localization bug, but the settlement label on the map is Timberton. Both missions can be tackled at the same time you reach Delesyia in the main story, and do not require a specific character.
| Order | Mission | Primary objective |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Fading Tinkerton | Liberate and reactivate Marni's Drilling Rig to restore power |
| 2 | Light Restored to Tinkerton | Report back to the chief once the rig is running |
Mission 1: Fading Tinkerton walkthrough
Step 1: Travel to Timberton in Delesyia and speak with the town chief. He explains that the settlement's lights have gone out because the nearby Marni's Drilling Rig has been overrun, and he asks you to bring power back to the town.
Step 2: Head to Marni's Drilling Rig. The site is marked on your map after the dialogue. On arrival, the linked objective "Closed Power – Marni's Drilling Rig" updates to a clearance task. Defeat every hostile in the compound, including the heavy units stationed near the central platform, to liberate the rig.

Step 3: With the area cleared, the site label changes to "Abandoned Drilling Rig" and a new sub-objective appears: "Reactivate the Drilling Rig." Interact with the control console on the rig to start it up. A short cutscene plays, and the rig's lights and machinery come back online.

Mission 1 closes the moment reactivation finishes. The journal updates to mark Fading Tinkerton as complete and automatically queues the follow-up mission.
Mission 2: Light Restored to Tinkerton
Step 1: Fast travel back to Timberton. The street lanterns and workshop lights will visibly be on, which is the first confirmation that the rig change took effect across the settlement.
Step 2: Speak again with the chief of Timberton. He acknowledges the restored power, thanks you on behalf of the Blackwater Oil Merchant Guild, and closes out the faction line. The quest is marked complete, and Flickering Starlight disappears from the active list.

Rewards and unlocked vendors
Finishing Flickering Starlight is what flips Timberton from a half-active outpost into a working trade hub. Two practical changes happen on completion.
| Unlock | Where | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Pure White Dye | Wilmer at the Provisioner's Shop, Timberton | Sold for 15 coins; usable on outfits and gear |
| Timber-selling merchant | Timberton trade post | Becomes active after the rig is reactivated |
| Blackwater Oil Merchant Guild reputation | Faction tab in Journal | Guild line closes with only this two-mission chain |
Pure White Dye is the headline reward and the reason most players run this chain. It will not appear in Wilmer's stock until the rig is reactivated and you have spoken with the chief, even if the dye entry is visible in your customization menu.

How to confirm the chain is fully complete
Three signals indicate Flickering Starlight is fully resolved:
- Both Fading Tinkerton and Light Restored to Tinkerton appear with a completed tick under the Blackwater Oil Merchant Guild entry on the Faction Quests UI.
- Timberton's streetlamps and signs are lit at night, and ambient NPC activity expands.
- Wilmer's inventory at the Provisioner's Shop lists Pure White Dye for purchase.
If any of the three is missing, return to the rig and re-check the control console interaction, then speak with the chief again. The most common reason the chain stalls is leaving the rig area before the "Reactivate the Drilling Rig" objective fully ticks over.
Common confusions to avoid
Despite the shared word, Flickering Starlight is not connected to Where Starlight Converges, the Damiane-only constellation quest that hands out the Sword of Starlight. That quest belongs to the Scholastone Research Institute faction and requires observing all 13 constellations using the Constellation Helmet. Nothing in the Blackwater Oil Merchant Guild chain involves constellations, the Constellation Helmet, or Damiane-specific story gating.
