Crimson Desert: Where to Gather Oakwood Mushrooms for Varis’s Request

Varis’s Request is a Pailune commission in Crimson Desert, part of the Tales of the Pailunese Merchants line. Varis, a merchant in Pailon, wants forest mushrooms for a new product he plans to sell, and the quest sends you well outside town to get them. The mushrooms do not grow anywhere near the Grocer’s Shop where the request starts, which is where most players stall.

Quick answer: Harvest oakwood mushrooms from the fallen log on the mountain path south of Beighen Candlery, near the Black Wall border, then hand three of them to Varis’s Assistant under the tent canopy back in Beighen Candlery.

Varis’s Request objectives and quantity required

The quest has two objectives. You talk to the person who posted the request, then gather oakwood mushrooms and deliver them. The tracker asks you to hand over three oakwood mushrooms, so three is the number that matters for completion. Picking a couple of spares does no harm, since the fallen log holds more than enough in one spot.

Some menus display the request under the name Varia’s Request and the turn-in NPC as Varia’s Assistant. It is the same commission, and the quest name in the journal is Varis’s Request.

Route to the oakwood mushrooms south of Beighen Candlery

Open the map from Pailon and fast travel to the node closest to the quest marker. From there, cross the bridge over the Upper Denn River and ride into Beighen Candlery. This settlement is both your landmark for the mushrooms and the place you return to later.

Leave the settlement heading south and take the trail that climbs the mountain toward the Black Wall area. A horse makes the climb much quicker, and the quest marker on the compass keeps you pointed the right way as the path bends through the trees.

Near the top of the path, look for a large fallen tree log lying off to the side of the trail. Oakwood mushrooms grow in a cluster along its trunk, so you can pick everything you need without moving. Dismount and hold the interact prompt on each mushroom until the counter reaches 3.

Note: Oakwood Mushroom is a common gatherable in Hernand and turns up occasionally in the southern parts of Pailune, so any you already carry from earlier foraging count toward the request. Check your inventory before making the trip.

Where to find Varis’s Assistant for the turn-in

Open the map and ride back down the mountain to Beighen Candlery. The delivery marker sits inside the settlement, not back in Pailon, so there is no need to return to the Grocer’s Shop.

Walk to the tent canopy the marker points at and approach the figure standing beneath it, listed at first as a Stranger. Starting the conversation identifies them as Varis’s Assistant and brings up the delivery dialogue.

Hold the “Hand over” prompt to pass across the three oakwood mushrooms. The assistant thanks you, the quest log flips to Quest Completed, and the rewards land in your inventory straight away.

The completion text notes that the mushrooms were delivered and that Varis was pleased with their aroma. The payout mixes inventory space, cooking ingredients, and standing with Pailune.

If the quest will not complete

Two things usually explain a stalled turn-in. Either the gather counter has not reached three yet, in which case the hand-over option stays unavailable, or you are standing at the wrong marker and looking for the quest giver in Pailon instead of the assistant in Beighen Candlery. Check the counter in the tracker first, then confirm the map pin is on the settlement and not the town you started in.

Any spare mushrooms you pick are worth keeping. Two Oakwood Mushrooms and two Water make Oakwood Mushroom Tea at a cauldron, so a full stack from the fallen log covers this commission and a few brews afterward.
