Diablo 4 Season 15: Best Warlock Leveling Build From Level 1 to 70

The exact skill point order, Soul Shard picks, aspects, and paragon path for the two fastest Warlock openers.

The exact skill point order, Soul Shard picks, aspects, and paragon path for the two fastest Warlock openers.

Warlock came out of the Season 15 balance pass as one of the strongest classes in Diablo 4, and the leveling curve reflects it. Two openers stand above the rest between level 1 and 70: the Dread Claws build, which leans on buffed demon skills and needs almost nothing from your gear, and the Orbital Blazing Scream build, which builds a ring of passive damage around you and keeps moving. Both run on the same support skeleton — Nether Step for mobility, Terror Swarm as the ultimate, and a Soul Shard unlocked at level 15.

Quick answer: Take Dread Claws at level 3 with the Mastermind Shard for the smoothest campaign run, or Blazing Scream with the Vanguard Shard if you want the same build to carry straight into endgame.

Dread Claws or Blazing Scream: which Warlock leveling build to pick

BuildCore skillSoul ShardBest for
Dread ClawsDread ClawsMastermind (Laalish)Zero-gear campaign start
Orbital Blazing ScreamBlazing ScreamVanguard (Abodian)Speed and endgame carry-over

Dread Claws is the easier of the two. It works from the first skill point, asks nothing of your vulnerability sources, and stays comfortable through the whole campaign. The trade-off shows up later — it drops off hard once you start pushing deep Pit tiers, so plan on swapping builds after 70.

Blazing Scream ramps a little slower and is more experimental during leveling, but it is the top endgame Warlock build of the season. If you would rather set up your farming build once and leave it alone, start here.

Season 15 Warlock buffs that matter while leveling

SkillChange in Season 15
Dread ClawsNow a Greater Demon Skill; base damage 50% → 70%
Ravenous Jaws variantEviscerate damage 125% → 500%
Command AbodianBite base damage 155% → 245%; unhindered by enemies
Blazing ScreamBrimstone Hunger bonus cap 25% → 50%
Terror SwarmDamage per second 100% → 130%; burst 500% → 650%

Two of those changes quietly shape the leveling experience. Abodian now prioritizes elites and other high-value targets close to you instead of wandering off, and Terror Swarm’s Vulnerable upgrade doubled its bonus to Archfiend skills, from 20% to 40%.

Dread Claws skill point path (levels 2 to 70)

Every point below goes in at the level listed. The opening ten levels lock in your generator, your core skill, and your movement skill, then you start dumping ranks into Dread Claws and only break that pattern for the variants and modifiers that multiply it.

LevelAllocation
2–4Doom, Dread Claws, Nether Step
5–7Wrath (Doom), Damage (Dread Claws), Extra Charge (Nether Step)
8–11Rampage, Assimilation, Vulnerable, Movement Speed
12–13Ranks into Dread Claws
14–15Contagion, Cascading Dread
16–18Ambush swap, Elite Hit Chance, Dread Claws rank
19–21Terror Swarm, Abyssal Titan, Dread Claws rank
22–25Extra Bites, Pull, Nightmare, Dread Claws rank
26–29Ranks into Dread Claws
30Lesser Demon Wrath and Command Fallen respec
31–35Dread Claws ranks, Recall Shadows at 34
36–40Ranks into Rampage, Metamorphosis respec at 40
41+Max Rampage, Nether Step, Command Fallen, Metamorphosis

The three respec points

At level 15 you unlock class mechanics and pick the Mastermind Shard, which summons Laalish. The same level takes the Cascading Dread variant. One level later, swap the Vulnerable modifier on Dread Claws for Ambush.

At level 30 you take Lesser Demon Wrath on Rampage, unlock the Blasphemous Fragment, and pull your Doom points out entirely. Reinvest them into Command Fallen along with the Wrath and Dominance modifiers and the Fallen Rush variant. Doom has done its job by this point; Command Fallen generates resource far faster.

At level 40 Terror Swarm gets retired. Move those points into Metamorphosis with the Maximum Life and Dominance modifiers and the Terror Demon variant, then switch Cascading Dread over to Enveloping Terror. From 41 onward you are just filling out Rampage, Nether Step, Command Fallen, and Metamorphosis.

Orbital Blazing Scream skill point path (levels 2 to 70)

This one plays differently before and after level 15. Up to that point you are casting Command Fallen to build Wrath and spending it on Blazing Scream. After Orbital Scream comes online, most of your damage orbits you passively and you keep moving.

LevelAllocation
2–4Command Fallen, Blazing Scream, Nether Step
5–7Wrath, Cost Reduction, Extra Charge
8–11Profane Sentinel, Blazing Scream rank, Impact Velocity, Movement Speed
12–14Single Target Damage, Blazing Scream rank, Mega Lunatic
15Orbital Scream rebuild (see below)
16–18Blazing Scream rank, Narrow Blast, Blazing Scream rank
19–21Terror Swarm, then two Blazing Scream ranks
22–24Extra Bites, Blazing Scream rank, Pull
25–29Ranks into Blazing Scream
30–33Ranks into Terror Swarm
34–39Recall Shadows at 34, then Terror Swarm ranks
40Searing Infestation
41+Max Terror Swarm, Nether Step, Profane Sentinel, Hell Fracture

Level 15 is a full rebuild rather than a single point. Take the Orbital Scream variant, pull every point out of Command Fallen, swap Cost Reduction to the Damage modifier, swap Impact Velocity to Brimstone Hunger, and slot in Hell Fracture with the Eruption variant and the Additional Fracture modifier. Pick the Vanguard Shard to summon Abodian, with the Warden Fragment underneath it.

Once Blazing Scream is orbiting, Nether Step’s movement speed modifier does more work than an extra rank of damage. Keep moving through packs rather than standing still to cast.

Soul Shards, Fragments, and Soul Splinters

Shards and Fragments are locked to your build, but Soul Splinters are the new power items you slot in as you find them. The priority order is the same for both builds.

  • Splinter of the Black Soulstone — the strongest offensive option, take it first.
  • Splinter of Hellfire — second priority for damage.
  • Splinter of Sin — a solid third pick for extra maximum health.

Aspects, runewords, and charms for the leveling run

BuildPriority aspectsCharm set
Dread ClawsCalamity, Insidious, AggressiveHorazon’s Chains
Blazing ScreamAggressive, Reanimation, Edgemaster’sFlesh of Abaddon

Aspect of Calamity is the single most valuable pickup for Dread Claws because of the critical strike chance it provides. For runewords, the Gar rune is common early and pushes critical strike chance further, which makes it worth slotting the moment you find one.

On the talisman, the Horadric Seal of the Eternal is the one you want. Run the Lethality charm set early for the bonus experience, then move to the set that matches your build once leveling speed stops being the bottleneck.

Mercenaries and the first paragon boards

Subo is the default mercenary pick for leveling because the movement speed buff shortens every trip between packs. Raheir is the alternative if you are dying more than you would like, and Varyana works well in the reinforcement slot thanks to Bloodthirst.

On the paragon board, path up the right side of the starting board to reach the socket for the Demonologist glyph. Greater Hex is the second board for most setups, though Pyrosis is the stronger attachment if you went with Blazing Scream.

How to confirm the build is on track

The clearest checkpoint is level 15. When the Soul Shard goes in, your named demon — Laalish for Mastermind, Abodian for Vanguard — appears alongside you and stays. If no companion spawns, the shard has not been selected under the class mechanics panel.

After that, watch your resource bar. Casting your basic skill should be filling Wrath fast enough that you can hold down your core skill almost continuously. If you are running dry between packs, the Wrath modifier on your generator is the point you skipped.

Once you hit 70, the two builds diverge for good. Blazing Scream keeps scaling into the deep endgame with the right uniques, while Dread Claws is best treated as the vehicle that got you there — plan a swap rather than trying to push it further than it goes.
