Paris spires under a red moon in Castlevania: Belmont's Curse

Spoiler warning: this guide reveals Trevor Belmont’s fate after the opening clash with Death and later story events.

Quick answer: No, Trevor Belmont survives. After the opening battle with Death in the Catacombs, he sacrifices himself to protect Rose. Rose and everyone else believe he is gone, but he later appears alive at Notre-Dame.

What happens after the first Death fight

Trevor is Rose’s father. When she encounters Isaac later, she makes his identity clear: “My father is Trevor Belmont, the first to kill Dracula.”

Your first fight with Death, in the Catacombs of Paris, cannot be won (see can you beat Death in the Catacombs). Afterward, he ridicules Rose: “Know your place, little flower. For it remains in the shadows.” He then explains the reason she was brought there: “So you are! For that is why you are here! So that you may welcome the Lord of Darkness himself!”

An animated scene takes over from there. Paris goes up in flames.

An angel statue cracks and topples. A blood-red moon climbs into the sky, giant chains break up through the streets, and Dracula’s castle rises over the city.

A narrator lays out the plan: “For with the blood of the Great Adversary… the sanguine fluids of House Belmont… will the King of Vampires, the Lord of Darkness, Count Dracula… return to his full, indomitable power.”

Rose, her cursed arm bleeding, admits “I may have failed my father…” and then insists “But he can still stop you!” Her father appears at her side. She asks, “Father… Are you alright?”

Why everyone thinks Trevor is dead

Rose comes to in the Catacombs crying, “No! Father! You can’t do this!” The people around her treat his loss as final.

  • Joan: “I am so sorry, Rose. But your father’s sacrifice was good and noble. We should pray for his soul in this time of tragedy.”
  • The Fallen: “The loss of Trevor Belmont is a loss for all humanity.”
  • Medusa: “O Night! O Darkness! Dracula and His castle rise again! Soon the world will know it was this Belmont who let the Night return!”

Rose refuses to accept it at first, saying “NO! I cannot let my father die… Not now. Not yet…” By the end of the conversation she has turned grief into a goal: “It doesn’t matter. Dracula’s curse killed my mother. His servant killed my father…” and “…so I’m going to find a way to kill Dracula. For good.”

The story keeps that belief going well past the Catacombs. At Ferryman’s Wharf, Rose tells the Ferryman “my father is dead because of me.” On the Notre-Dame Bridge, Isaac tells her “Death already took all he needed from your father.”

Is Trevor really dead?

No. Much later, in the Transept of Notre-Dame, a scene shows Trevor held on a golden cross above a dark purple sphere. Death appears, and this is the real fight with him (how to beat Death).

After you defeat Death in that encounter, Trevor calls out. Find him lying in a bed in the Notre-Dame infirmary. In the scene, Rose is given the Vampire Killer, the Belmont family whip (how to get the Vampire Killer).

What the scene changes in the game

When the conversation ends, the objective REACH DRACULA’S CASTLE appears on screen. The game saves automatically at this point, and choosing Resume puts you back in this room.

The same scene also reveals who The Fallen really is, which reframes a few of the lines Rose hears while she mourns her father.
