The Vampire Killer is a Legendary weapon in Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, and you do not dig it out of a chest or hunt for it in a level. It comes to you as part of the story, handed over by Trevor Belmont after one specific boss falls.

Quick answer: Defeat Death in the Transept of Notre-Dame, then go to the Notre-Dame infirmary. Trevor gives you the Vampire Killer automatically at the end of the scene.

Reach the Transept and start the Death fight

Reach Notre-Dame’s Transept by ascending from the Notre-Dame Undercroft. Trevor is suspended in chains from a cross over a purple power sphere, while Death appears to speak with Rose. This starts the boss battle against Death.

How to beat Death

Learn the four tells below and the fight becomes a matter of reading his wind-ups.

  • He raises his scythe with a teal trail before a sweeping slash and combo. Slide under him and jump behind to hit his back.
  • Thin teal laser lines trace across the screen before turning into thick beams. Stand on platforms or in the gaps between the lines.
  • He gathers green flame in his hand before releasing a homing orb. Dash away and jump over it.
  • He teleports to the centre, wraps in dark wings and charges green light before a radial blade burst. Back off onto the platforms between the projectile paths.

When he goes down, the trophy “Death… killed?” is awarded.

Absorb the Arcana before you move on

After the kill a tutorial prompt reads “DURING THE ABSORPTION PHASE, HOLD DOWN R1 TO ABSORB THE POWER OF THE ARCANA.” Do it. You receive the Arcana card The Shadow, which carries the spell Soul Harvest.

Get the Vampire Killer from Trevor in the infirmary

Once absorption is complete, Trevor calls out. Make your way to the infirmary at Notre-Dame; he is lying in bed there. The conversation starts automatically, so there is no Interact prompt and nothing to search.

When the scene concludes, the Vampire Killer card is displayed. The “Stuff of Legends” trophy appears with the “Work of Mercy completed” banner, confirming you now have the weapon.

The card text reads: “The Belmont family heirloom. Burns enemies hit with its tip and cause enemies killed to explode in flames. The furthest point of the weapon’s attack deals more damage.”

How to equip the Vampire Killer

You have to equip the weapon yourself; it isn’t selected automatically. On the card screen, a Hold to Equip prompt (Square on PlayStation) appears alongside Continue (Cross). Hold the equip button to wield it. Choosing Continue leaves your currently equipped weapon in place.

You can equip it again later. From the Equipment menu, enter the Armoury, select the weapon, and choose Equip (Cross on PlayStation). The Armoury screen lists the controls at the bottom as “Navigate / Equip / Back”.
