DragonSword: Awakening Heroes Ranked – Full Tier List (July 2026)

Where all 19 launch heroes land based on ailment coverage, combo damage, and how forgiving they are to play.

DragonSword: Awakening hands you a roster instead of a gacha banner, and every hero is built to feed the tag-team combo system rather than solo a boss. That changes how you read a ranking. The heroes that rise to the top are the ones whose Status Ailments slot cleanly into other characters’ Signal Skills, not just the ones with the biggest single number. Here is where all 19 launch heroes sit right now.

Quick answer: Lute, Theresia, Aria, Castella, and Dana are the safest first investments. They cover the widest range of ailments, chain into the most combos, and hold up across dungeons, bosses, and exploration without demanding perfect execution.

How this DragonSword: Awakening tier list is ranked

Placements weigh four things. Ailment coverage measures how well a hero’s Status Ailment pairs with teammates to trigger Signal Skills and Switching Signals. Combo and DPS potential covers raw damage plus the multipliers those chains unlock. Versatility looks at how a hero performs across dungeons, boss fights, and open-world exploration. Ease of use rates how punishing the optimal rotation is on both keyboard and controller.

This reflects the July 2026 launch build with Tower of Trials live. There is no rarity system here, so the S through C labels describe performance only, not pull odds. Expect movement as the Rift System, Hero Quests, and new post-launch heroes arrive.

SLute, Theresia, Aria, Castella, DanaBroadest ailment coverage, strongest combo potential, and reliable across every content type
ARoxy, Ornette, Kalsion, Reina, Kalien, Johnny, CharlotteExcellent in a defined role and strong team fits, with a slightly higher skill or setup cost
BAlex, Eileen, Tarte, Cerese, OthelloViable but situational; they want a specific team or matchup to shine

S-tier heroes and why they carry

Lute is the most beginner-friendly anchor in the game. Stun Slash locks a target down, Healing Circle pulls you and your allies out of trouble, Sword Grab turns an enemy into a weapon, and Relic Fall delivers heavy AoE when timed right. His Bleed pressure scales in long fights, and there are almost no downsides to building him early.

Theresia is arguably the strongest character in the current meta. Her chained flails reach across the whole screen, and she flips between Consecration for Bleed and Celestial Verdict for Stun. Consecration upgrades her basic chain for a window, while Celestial Verdict lands a jumping slam with a Stun shockwave. She is punishing against groups without giving up single-target damage, though blending both modes takes practice.

Aria is a versatile ranged pick who leans on explosive bomb damage, with a Switch-On ability that lets you time detonations. She can also fall back on multi-bolt attacks for steadier ranged output, which makes her an easy early add that keeps paying off.

Castella is the premier support. Her party heal and damage-reduction window are what keep tanks alive through boss enrage timers, and sporadic Freeze on her basics adds crowd control. Dana rounds out the tier as a hybrid summoner built around Frost. Her ice golem, Chako, fights independently, pulls aggro, inflicts Frost and knockdown, and can shift into a shield to protect the party.

A-tier heroes worth building

These heroes rival S-tier in the right team. Roxy is the standout ranged option, staying mobile while nearly everything she does stacks Bleed through Crimson Spiral and Bloody Shower. Ornette applies Shock with both actives and buffs her own critical damage by 30% via Holy Circle, which feeds cleanly into her hard-hitting Holy Cross. Kalsion is a melee giant whose Blaze weapon fires fire bursts and raises his attack power, with alternate modes for flexibility.

Reina is the best pure juggle starter on the roster, since both Rising Cutter and Wind Slayer inflict Airborne to open air combos. Kalien is a fire caster whose fox-based Fox Chase and Fox Parade demand you learn their movement paths, but reward you with strong Burn pressure. Johnny is a burst specialist whose Shock interrupts channeled boss abilities, though his lack of AoE hurts in wave-heavy dungeons.

Charlotte is the split pick. She inflicts poison, airborne, and knockdown, so she fills the tag combo gauge faster than almost anyone, and her clone decoy plus aerial poison volley make her a fantastic early unlock. Her ceiling is high because her extended airborne chains reward precise execution, which is why some rankings place her lower. Played well, she performs like a top-tier hero.

B-tier and C-tier heroes

B-tier heroes work with the right support. Alex is honest sword-and-board with knockdown and active guard frames, but he plays too defensively to lead most comps. Eileen brings halberd reach and a banner that buffs nearby allies, with Barging Spear for airborne setups. Tarte offers Shock and a little healing, but her damage relies on juggling holy orbs, so she stays situational. Cerese shines in Frost teams thanks to Ice Storm’s control, though better Frost options exist. Othello remains a niche pick that needs a build to justify a slot.

C-tier is where the friction shows. Sion’s relic caster kit provides shock, knockdown, and toggleable offense or defense buffs, but his slow standard-attack orbs make combat feel sluggish. Astria is a crossbow hero with no innate Status Ailments on her openers, which is a real hole in an ailment-driven game. She also stops to reload often, leaving her exposed unless you fire and immediately tag out.

Why ailment stacking decides the rankings

Stacking different Status Ailments is what powers your tag combo attack, so heroes who bring multiple effects or pair neatly with others punch above their raw damage. Two habits raise everyone’s output. You can tag out mid-animation, since a long skill keeps running on the first hero while your swap-in joins the fight. On grabbable bosses, latch on, then switch characters so the first hero stays attached and both fighters chew through one health bar at once.

Because all 19 heroes come with the base purchase, you can test placements yourself without spending anything beyond Fate’s Invitations earned through the story. If you want to try before committing, the demo and full game are on the official Steam page.

Treat this as a launch-window snapshot rather than a fixed verdict. Hound13 has already confirmed four free post-launch heroes — Ryza, Jerome, Veronica, and Logan — arriving later in 2026, and the Rift System will reward attributes that could lift several current B-tier picks. Skill and team synergy still outweigh any single rating, so build the hero whose rhythm you actually enjoy and let the rankings guide your resource priorities.
