Microsoft has just announced a massive update to the Windows 10, and it brings in one of the most wanted features to the most fabulous operating system of our times — a Dark theme in File Explorer.

Before you get all excited, know that the dark theme for File Explorer is only rolling out with Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 17666 (RS5), which is available to download for those who have their PCs enrolled in the Fast ring (Active development of Windows) under WIP program.

How to enable dark theme in File Explorer on Windows

  1. Open Start menu and click on the Settings icon.
  2. Click on the Personalization option on the Settings page.
  3. Select the Colors option from the sidebar on the left of the screen.
  4. Now scroll down to the bottom on the right panel, you’ll see Choose your default app mode setting, select Dark here.

That’s all. Your Windows 10 PC will now show dark theme in whatever applications that support the feature. As for File Explorer, if you’ve Windows 10 version and OS build above build 17666, you’ll have dark theme in File Explorer on Windows 10.
