Enshrouded 1.0: How to Get Enshrouded Oil (Laboratory Recipe and Uses)

One Laboratory batch turns four Shroud and mining materials into five bottles of oil for gliders, chests, and spells.

One Laboratory batch turns four Shroud and mining materials into five bottles of oil for gliders, chests, and spells.

The oil in Enshrouded 1.0 is called Enshrouded Oil. You make it at the Laboratory, which turns 5 Shroud Particles, 5 Coal Powder, 5 Brittle Shroud Flakes and 1 Sulfur into 5 Enshrouded Oil. Even its own item text doesn’t oversell it: “Its uses are unknown even to the creator itself, but it definitely didn’t help the skin of the Fell!” It still ends up in gliders, chests, spells and weapons.

Quick answer: Build a Laboratory, pick up Coal Powder to reveal the recipe, then craft 5 Enshrouded Oil from 5 Shroud Particles, 5 Coal Powder, 5 Brittle Shroud Flakes and 1 Sulfur.

How to make Enshrouded Oil

The recipe stays hidden until two conditions are met. You need a Laboratory, and you need to have picked up Coal Powder. Once both are true, the oil appears in the Laboratory’s recipe list.

Build a Laboratory in your base. The Alchemist crafts it, and the full cost is listed in the next section.
Grind coal into Coal Powder at Grinding Stones and pick it up. That pickup is what reveals the Enshrouded Oil recipe, so grind at least 5 to cover one batch.
Gather 5 Shroud Particles, 5 Brittle Shroud Flakes and 1 Sulfur. The ingredients table below shows where each one comes from.
Open the Laboratory and craft Enshrouded Oil. One craft uses all four ingredients and gives you 5 Enshrouded Oil.

How to build the Laboratory

The Alchemist crafts the Laboratory. Bring these materials:

  • 1 Scientific Instruments
  • 1 Athanor
  • 40 Fired Bricks
  • 10 Copper Bars
  • 3 Glass

Set the Laboratory beside the Alchemist’s workstations at your base.

Where to get the ingredients

Two of the four ingredients come from the Shroud, so expect to spend time inside it. The Kindlewastes Shroud is the one place for Brittle Shroud Flakes.

Fell enemies are where Shroud Particles drop, so clearing them while you’re in the Kindlewastes Shroud lets you collect Particles and Flakes on the same trip.
