Enshrouded 1.0: How to Get Wax

Harvest wild beehives for early stacks, or build the Honey Beehive to turn Plant Fiber into a steady supply.

Harvest wild beehives for early stacks, or build the Honey Beehive to turn Plant Fiber into a steady supply.

Wax is a common crafting material in Enshrouded with a smooth consistency, described in its item text as “Needed for illumination of all sorts.” You will reach for it when lighting your base and, more pressingly, when pushing the Flame Altar up a level. There are two reliable ways to gather it: pulling it from wild beehives in the world, and producing it at your base once you unlock the Honey Beehive.

Quick answer: Early on, gather Wax by harvesting wild hives in trees; next, finish the Farmer’s “A Beehive Smoker” quest and craft a Honey Beehive, which produces 1 Wax from 3 Plant Fiber, or from Paper Reed.

Harvest Wax from wild beehives

Wild hives are large, pale, papery shapes that hang from branches, so the first job is to spot them against the canopy.

Look up into the trees and find a wild hive, a big pale papery mass hanging from a branch.
Walk up to the hive. When you are close enough it shows a “Harvest” prompt, and you can collect from it directly.
Or take out an axe. Aim at the trunk for the “Cut tree” prompt and chop the tree the hive hangs from.

Loot the fallen pieces using the “Loot” prompt. The pickup list includes Wax.

Unlock the Honey Beehive through the Farmer quest

For Wax you can make on demand, you need the Honey Beehive. It becomes available after you finish the Farmer’s quest “A Beehive Smoker”, which tracks down a missing delivery and ends in a fight.

Start the Farmer quest “A Beehive Smoker”. She ordered a Beehive Smoker for her tavern in Brittlebush and it never arrived, so investigate Emily Fray’s tavern in Brittlebush.
Follow the trail to East Lapis, where the smoker was sent from. Investigate the trade route at the spot marked on your map.
Head to the Vukah Sacrifice Hill, where the Beehive Smoker was taken along with honey and wax. Defeat the Vukah Honey Thief to recover it.
Place the Beehive Smoker in your base. Doing so unlocks the Honey Beehive at the Farmer.
Craft a Honey Beehive at the Farmer using 4 Wood Logs, 20 Straw, and 4 Lump of Clay, then set it down in your base.

A placed Honey Beehive handles both bee products: each Wax takes 3 Plant Fiber or Paper Reed, while 1 Sugar yields 1 Honey.

What Wax is used for
