Mine raw Basalt in Cinder’s Cradle, then grind a single chunk at the Mill to produce Basalt Dust.

Basalt Dust is a common Enshrouded crafting ingredient produced by milling compact, mineral-rich volcanic stone. It cannot be mined as-is: collect raw Basalt in the Cinder’s Cradle volcanic region, then process it with a Mill at your base.

Quick answer: Mine raw Basalt in Cinder’s Cradle, bring it to a Mill, select the Basalt Dust recipe, and insert the Basalt. Each unit takes 3 minutes to grind.

What you need before crafting Basalt Dust

Two things have to be in place before you can produce any Basalt Dust. You need access to the volcanic biome where Basalt spawns, and you need a working Mill at your base.

  • Raw Basalt, a common terrain material sourced from Cinder’s Cradle.
  • A pickaxe to mine it, such as the Gilded Pickaxe.
  • A Mill, unlocked through the Alchemist after picking up the Improved Millstone and crafted under a roof.
  • Flame level 10, which gates entry to the volcanic region.

The Mill needs a force generator close by to operate. Windmill sails and a water wheel partly underwater can provide the force. Without a generator, the recipe will stay stalled.

How to find and mine Basalt in Cinder’s Cradle

Open the world map and route toward the volcanic region. You reach Cinder’s Cradle by passing through the Ancient Gate area, located near Starfish Shores and Cromville Hot Spring. Fast-travel to the closest flame altar to cut down the journey.

Once inside the volcanic biome, look for the dark, dense rock faces that make up the terrain. Basalt appears as solid dark stone in both open areas and shroud pockets, embedded in cliff walls and cavern surfaces.
Equip your pickaxe and mine the dark nodes to collect Basalt chunks. Basalt stacks up to 1,000, so you can gather a large supply in a single trip. Mining deposits in shroud zones can also yield Diamond alongside the Basalt.

Clear enemies around a dense deposit, strip the nodes, then move on and return later. The nodes regenerate over time, which makes repeat farming runs practical.

How to grind Basalt into Basalt Dust at the Mill

Head back to your base and operate the Mill. Keep an active force generator close to the station for it to run.
Change the recipe to Basalt Dust. The Mill offers several grinding recipes, including Diamond Dust and Sparkling Dust, so select the correct one from the list.

Deposit your Basalt into the Mill. Each batch consumes 1 Basalt and the grinding takes 3 minutes per unit. Queue as many as you need and let the station work.

You will know it worked when finished Basalt Dust appears in the Mill’s output, ready to pull into your inventory. Basalt Dust is a level 45 common material that stacks up to 250.

What Basalt Dust unlocks and crafts

Picking up Basalt Dust for the first time teaches the recipes for the Eternal Chain Heal II and Eternal Entangle spells. Beyond those, the dust feeds into healing and support spells crafted at the Alchemist, plus several terrain and building materials. The table below lists the spells that consume Basalt Dust along with their core figures.

SpellRarityItem levelMana cost
Eternal Chain Heal IILegendary4558
Eternal EntangleRare4558
Eternal Heal Beam IILegendary4554
Heal Cascade IICommon4714

Eternal Chain Heal II sends out a healing beam that finds allies close by on its own. As an Eternal Spell, it uses Mana to cast and consumes no spell charges. Eternal Entangle spreads roots over an area, briefly pinning most enemies; larger foes are slowed instead. Both spells reduce Mana cost by 5 percent and charge time by 10 percent.

Basalt Dust also works into building and terrain materials such as Basalt Farm Soil, Crimson Ground, Royal Temper, and A Distant Star. Since raw Basalt stacks so high, a single farming run through Cinder’s Cradle gives you enough feedstock to keep the Mill busy and cover these recipes well before you run short.
