Enshrouded’s voxel building lets you dig, raise and reshape almost any piece of Embervale, so you can live in a cliff wall, a hollowed tree or a full underground atrium. Since the 1.0 release on October 15th, players have been rebuilding old homes and starting new ones. The five bases below range from a modest two-storey house to a village built by several players together, and each one shows a different way to use the same set of blocks.
Quick answer: The five bases are a starter mansion, a Kindlewastes cliffside courtyard, an underground cave base, a Giant Tree base in Blackmire, and a vegetation-filled co-op town. Every one starts from a single Flame Altar.
The 5 Enshrouded base builds compared
The list runs from the smallest project to the largest. Pick the one that matches how much time you want to spend with the Construction Hammer instead of fighting through the Shroud.

| Base | Location | Scale | Builder |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter mansion | Any open spot | Two storeys | u/Valdrique |
| Cliffside courtyard | South of the Kindlewastes Ancient Spire | Walled compound | PHINQS |
| Cave base | Underground, opening to a garden | Large | u/dsm_90 |
| Giant Tree base | Giant Tree, Blackmire | Large | u/Mullaney1994 |
| Vegetation town | Shared world | Multi-house village | u/chubbybunnee_ and friends |
1) Starter mansion
The starter mansion proves you don’t need to terraform a mountain to get a good-looking home. It is a two-storey house with separate rooms for specific Survivors and a kitchen with a real chimney. Large windows keep the inside bright, and flowering creepers run across the outside walls. Everything in it is reachable early in the game, which makes it the right first project for new players.
2) Cliffside courtyard base in the Kindlewastes
PHINQS’s cliffside base sits against a small cliff south of the Kindlewastes Ancient Spire. It uses a square plan with walls on all four sides and a single gate that faces north. The Flame Altar sits in the middle of an open courtyard, surrounded by small huts for each Craftsperson and the other Survivors.

Across the courtyard from the gate is the main building, a single-storey hall. Inside is an indoor farm with four plots in rectangular beds. The private quarters hold a campfire, two beds and a study desk, with windows that look out over the courtyard and past the walls. It feels spacious without being hard to build.
3) Underground cave base
u/dsm_90’s cave base is mostly dug into the ground and opens onto a garden at the surface. Above ground there are quarters for the farmer and the hunter and a greenhouse full of plants. Below ground, the base is laid out like a small city around a central atrium.
- Alchemist workshop
- Blacksmith workshop
- Storage area
- Central atrium with a large statue, villager bedrooms and market stalls
- The player’s private quarters
The builder has shared the world files on the Enshrouded Discord server. You can start a new adventure with this base already built and skip the digging.

4) Giant Tree base in Blackmire
u/Mullaney1994’s Giant Tree base occupies Blackmire’s Giant Tree, both inside its trunk and around its exterior. Enemy camps usually fill the tree, so they had to be cleared before construction began. Bridges join the build’s separate rooms and platforms. Creepers and small plants cover every room, including the trunk’s smallest chamber.
Two choices define the look. The builder first reshaped the land extensively to create space. Then, instead of stone, wood blocks were used across nearly every surface, helping the base blend into the tree. The main idea to take from this build is to choose one material and use it throughout.
5) Vegetation-filled co-op town
u/chubbybunnee_’s town was made by a group of friends and feels more like a village than a base. A single Enshrouded server can host as many as 16 players, and this build demonstrates what a group can accomplish. Paved paths connect the individual houses, with stone fences and bushes along the way. Trees, shrubs, and creepers fill nearly every gap.
Each player built their own house, so each home looks different while the shared paths keep the town consistent. One house is almost buried in creepers and yellow lanterns. Another uses dark green lanterns and has a skeleton on its roof. A statue stands in the town square.

How to build an Enshrouded starter mansion around an elevated Flame Altar
A raised two-storey house with the Flame Altar at its center works well as a first base. The method below uses only early-game materials and gives you a farm area underneath, a fireplace, storage and bedrooms for your NPCs.
If you want darker materials before you start the walls, go down into the Shroud for Flintstone and Shroud Wood. Picking them up unlocks Flintstone and Shroud Wood building blocks.

Shroud Wood comes from dead trees inside the Shroud, and Flintstone is found in the Springlands. Both stack to large amounts: 250 for Shroud Wood and 1,000 for Flintstone.

Enshrouded Flame Altar, fireplace and comfort items every base needs
Each of the five bases depends on the same small set of placeables. The Flame Altar defines where you are allowed to build, and it has to sit above the Shroud. Everything you build must stay inside the area it marks. Comfort items increase how long the Rested buff lasts, so even a plain-looking house benefits from them.

| Item | Comfort | Other effect | How you get it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flame 1 | Marks build area | Claim A Spot For Your Base quest | |
| Hearth 1 | Frost Resistance 3 | Workbench, player level 5+ | |
| Bed 1 | None | Workbench, Making A Home quest | |
| Illumination 2 | None | Workbench, player level 5+ | |
| None | Frost Resistance 2 | Picking up Wood Logs |
The Fireplace is the item that makes the starter mansion’s chimney worth building. It cooks simple meals, grants the Rested buff and provides more frost protection than a Campfire. It is also a reward from the Building Shelter quest. Decorative doors such as the Huge Ancient Door and the Ancients Night Door come from the Carpenter and must be crafted under a roof, so finish your shelter before you plan a grand entrance.

For decorative materials like those in the town and tree builds, the Half-Timbered Block is found in Revelwood. Ancient Gold Block trim is found in The Ancient Citadel and Cinder’s Cradle. Each Workbench recipe for either block produces 100 blocks, and they stack to 5,000. That is enough to cover a whole street of houses without running back to the bench every few minutes.
