Fortnite 8-Bit Sprite: Location and Effect in Chapter 7 Season 4

Where the 8-Bit Sprite spawns, what its chest guarantee does, and how the multiplier feeds your leaderboard score.

The 8-Bit Sprite is one of the 11 Sprites added at the start of Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4: Override, and it exists for one purpose. It hands you an 8-Bit Shotgun with a score multiplier already attached, which is the fastest route to a respectable number on the 8-Bit Leaderboards back in the Lobby.

Quick answer: Equip the 8-Bit Sprite, then open any chest — the next chest you open is guaranteed to contain an 8-Bit Shotgun, and its rarity scales with the Sprite’s level.

What the 8-Bit Sprite does when equipped

The effect is deterministic rather than a percentage roll. With the Sprite equipped, the first chest you crack open contains an 8-Bit Shotgun. There is no timer, no cooldown to wait out, and no requirement to be at a specific point of interest.

Two things scale with the Sprite’s level. The rarity of the shotgun climbs as the Sprite levels up, and the shotgun arrives with a multiplier already applied. That multiplier is what matters for scoring, because a higher multiplier means a higher final total on the 8-Bit Leaderboards.

The 1-Up Token is the reason players chase the score at all. It acts as an extra life and respawns you after an elimination, so a strong 8-Bit Shotgun run has a practical benefit beyond bragging rights.

Where to find the 8-Bit Sprite

Cheat Codes are the primary source. They spawn across the island, and each one asks you to match a sequence of arrows on screen using your controller’s D-Pad or the arrow keys on a keyboard.

Prioritise blue Cheat Codes. Blue is the rare tier, it only requires four button inputs, and it carries the higher chance of producing the 8-Bit Sprite.

Bot lobbies are the low-pressure alternative. The 8-Bit Sprite appears there too, which makes it a reliable way to add it to your collection without contesting Cheat Codes against real opponents.

Note: Sprites in general can drop from ordinary chests as well, so a normal loot route still has a chance of turning one up. Cheat Codes are simply the concentrated method.

Using the chest guarantee efficiently

Because the guarantee applies to the next chest, the order you loot in matters. Equip the Sprite first, then walk to a chest rather than opening containers on the way and burning the effect on a moment you were not ready for.

Levelling the Sprite before you cash in is worth the delay. A higher-level 8-Bit Sprite produces a rarer shotgun, and rarity is not cosmetic here — the 8-Bit Shotgun’s DPS makes it a genuinely strong early-game weapon on top of the scoring angle.

How to confirm the effect triggered

Open the chest and check the contents screen. If the Sprite fired correctly, an 8-Bit Shotgun is sitting in the container, and inspecting it shows a multiplier already attached to the weapon. No multiplier and no shotgun means the Sprite was not equipped when you opened the chest.

The multiplier only pays out once you actually score with the weapon. Damage and eliminations with the 8-Bit Shotgun feed the 8-Bit Leaderboards, and the total you post determines your odds of being handed a 1-Up Token.

Keeping the Sprite between matches

Sprites level as you play with them, but they only stay yours if you get them out. Extract the Sprite at an extraction site or win the match, and it is saved to your collection so you can summon it again in a later game. Lose the match without extracting and the progress goes with it.

Anything you collect also lands in the Sprite Garden, the collection space built with the Unreal Editor for Fortnite that arrived alongside Season 4. Sprites carried over from Season 3 live there too.

The Cheat Master variant is the one most players will run into first, and further variants of the 8-Bit Sprite are expected to follow. Treat the base version as the working tool for now — a levelled 8-Bit Sprite plus a single well-timed chest is all the setup the leaderboard climb actually needs.
